The top hat with a few tack welds until I get some more wire..
I tried to paint today, got a couple things done and on the last thing, after a bunch of runs...ran out of paint, both colors i'm using. Then I put the upper and lower vics intake together, and ran out of copper spray on that gasket, so I can't put the water pump on yet, which I was really hoping to do while the paint was still wet so it wouldn't crack when the bolts are torqued. So being at a standstill needing a trip to town for supplies, that I didn't want to make today, I started thinking about the car/suspension. Since I can't do the front suspension right now, ra.com sent me the wrong bearings for the front spindles yesterday, I started seriously contemplating finishing up the rear suspension so it will hold a wheel and roll out of the garage to paint the engine bay. I got an idea in my head and be it bad or good, I decided to go ahead with it, got one of 2 welds done, and about 1/2" worth of inconsistent wire feed on the second weld I discovered I'm out of wire, so.. yea.. best part is my sleep pattern is non existent thanks to my #$#@ up work schedule so I'm probably not going to be able to sleep till 2-3 am and won't get up till halfway through tomorrow, in time to drive 150 miles to pick up my son and not get anything beneficial done before I go back to work saturday at 330am.
I got the intake mani painted, mocked it up for a photo op..
I can't wait for the rockauto order to get here, probably monday? Get the new water pump painted yellow, and put the front end on so it will be ready for a clutch and transmission! I'll rebuild the kia knuckles I have and roll the chassis out to clean it up and paint the engine bay. I don't know what color to go with for it, flat black, satin, gloss? metallic? a color other than black?! I'll end up probably painting the engine mount and brackets black, and do all the bolt ons yellow.
I need a new sticker to put across the top of the intake, I was thinking about stenciling "KIAZORD" and painting it in yellow, but I don't know yet. Probably wait until I find something worthy of going on it. Wish I knew someone who could cut out KIAZORD from some stainless or aluminum for a decent price.
The 07095 is the kit number, hd= heavy duty pressure plate, and the last digits are the disk designation.
Cheapest shipping for any of them is 46$, and they can cryo treat them for an extra 40$, which I didn't opt for. I think stage 2 is a full face kevlar disk? It's only rated 15 more HP and costs 50$ more.
I was bored the other night and looked up all the major clutch companies I could think of and jotted down a list of all the stage 1-5 kits, the corresponding part numbers for the pressure plate and friction disk for proteges and 626's, what they were rated for and prices of everything. I didn't make a game of finding the cheapest prices, basically I just used the manufacturers websites. Almost all the companies use the same pressure plate, and the disk is what gives it more or less tq rating. This was the best I could see after shipping and everything was included. If it holds 250 tq as advertised I won't have a problem because I'm only hoping for 200 HP at the wheels/230chp +/-.
I also cross referenced the part numbers on rockauto.com for all the pressure plates/disks/t/o bearings for xr2 capri's, hydro proteges, and 626's (all year 93) and they sell the same components for each car with a g series. So, with any luck, I will be able to use the throwout bearing I got with the 626 kit. It's got toyo stamped on it, and there was a no name pilot bearing too, but I already punched in a national/Moog pilot bearing. Both have "202" stamped on them.
Yea from what i can tell its just the same southbend pressure plate they use for stage 1-3, with an OE exedy disk, it has an exedy stamp on it, just a full faced organic sprung disk.
^ thanks for the info! Turns out, my favorite local parts store secretly doubles as one of rockautos warehouses. I found the belt I need, and marietta ignition has it in stock, so i'll save on shipping!
I got the wiring harness in the mail 2 days ago, and yesterday I ordered a stage 1 Southbend clutch, rated for 250 tq. Also put in a rockauto order for the water pump, disty oring, a wheel bearing rebuild kit, and some other random stuff. I need to get a timing belt. I thought I saw someone had a blue one, but I don't know where I would get one like it!???!? anybody know!?
I have the intake manifold apart right now, been cleaning it on and off all day getting it ready for paint.
I wouldn't really have a problem with it if I had time, and a clue, but it would end up costing more for the wires than its worth. I gotta get this thing going as soon as I can, but its still a looong way from being done.
I got ahold of the guy and paid him for my harness, so hopefully he will have it shipped tomorrow like he said. I pm'd you about the other guy, he's parting out his car so I bet he's got the ecu and all for ya.
Yeah like I said when I was lookin at mine and comparing it to the festy one, there's quite a few differences there. That'd help me out a lot too. Don't really feel like building an entire engine harness lol.
Alright, ill pm you as soon as I hear something back from either of them. I hope they come thru, it would make my job easier lol.. Aaron was right, it would take some serious work to make the aspire harness work, the ignition systems are different, and most of the plugs.
