I'm all up on that kryptonite, Oren09 may very well buy the roller when I'm done so it'll go somewhere special and won't go to waste Otherwise, it'll be a parts spree!

I am in the process of getting the black car straightened out. I think it's salvageable with some minor tweaks. In the mean time, the Kia BP was consuming a lot of oil after a low oil incident stemming from a completely failed dizzy 0-ring. I knew it probably smoothed the bores and it started to smoke with any throttle. So while I'm finishing the cross member and core support stuff, I snagged this:

It's from a car that the yard guy claimed had only 107k on. I was slightly skeptical until I popped the oil cap off:

Someone REALLY took care of this car. The cam, cylinder head, springs etc. we're all barely even tan. Total score for me. The flip side is, after R&R of the tired BP, I can strip down the Kia motor and put some uhhh, stuff in it.

It'll get the Kia intake and exhaust manifold for the time being, since I am just going to drop it in for driveability's sake. Once it's sorted out (ie issues) with this motor the turbo goes in.

Time to bring this one back.

The black car is toast. I pulled the plug and bought an electric blue 89 carb car that I despise. Texas is NOT kind to the Holley swap stuff and the feedback carb is infuriating. I have some sort of highly intermittent miss that is somewhere I cannot find (new plugs, de-carbon'd the engine, wires are solid, dizzy/cap/rotor/coil are good) so ?$&! that carb $#!t.

First thing first, I replaced all the rubber and connection pieces up front. New control arms, sway bar bushings, tie rods, etc.

Then, I swapped all of the black car's suspension/stopping stuff over. Coil overs, Kia hubs/brakes/rotors, stainless brake lines, Aspire rear beam/brakes, wheels etc.

Now for the fun stuff. The Kia motor was a smoker. I failed the oil ring on the dizzy and it ran stupid low on oil before I caught it. The car ran OK but consumed oil and resembled a freight train at WOT. The solution: I found a 98K Escort GT motor that had been pulled and was verified to have great compression and oil pressure. I am always skeptical but for $250 I'd give it a whirl. I broke it down tonight to give it a once-over. The piston tops look terrific, the valves on the intake side look terrific, the oil on the dipstick was light tan and, after busting off the valve cover, I was pleased to see an engine that was obviously WELL maintained.

So the blue car is getting the drive train pulled shortly, and I will be swapping over the electronics/fuel system. I've had a pile of crap to install (turbo, intercooler, tubing, SAFCII, injectors, AEM wideband, etc.) and it needs a home. Hopefully it will be a (RUNNING) boosted Festy by the end of February!

Stripped the motor down to head and short block. Everything looks good, could use new bearings though.

Great shot showing the piston oil squirters

Today was another productive day by far. I ordered new bearings for the bottom end of the motor and decided to prep the wiring for removal. The PCM bolts under the dash on the passenger side. The entire engine harness came thru the AC line hole and the stock Kia engine harness grommet fit perfectly. I pulled the harness apart and took it out into the engine bay. I'll leave it all connected when I pull the motor.

I started disassembling the dash and sorted out the dash side of the ignition/fuel harness. I can feel the anti-EFI guys having a panic attack looking at this pic LOL!

Here if have the dash out of the way and the Kia harness laid out. I was VERY surprised with how much it looks like Kia reused from the Festiva when designing the Sephia. The ignition components from the Festiva are completely interchangeable with the Kia in terms of the connectors: literally plug and play.

Since it's already out, and I'll have to pull the blue car's interior apart as well, I might as well install the dash and other grey panels. I like grey more than tan.

Tomorrow: swap the fuel lines, tank, exhaust and (hopefully) removing the Kia motor from the black car!

Picked up an Aspire fuel sending unit and some extra seats today, so I got a bit sidetracked. However, I should be good to go for the fuel situation so it was all good.

A bit of a break from the updates, I was on vacation for a week. The rod and main bearings arrived and I'll be pulling the drive train from the black car shortly.

No pics because it's boring and doesn't really matter, but the bottom end is re-bearing'd and buttoned back up. Pulling the engine from the black car within the next few days and I'll begin swapping over the engine parts. Stuff like the intake manifold, dizzy and oil pan are necessary for the swap. New intake and exhaust gaskets are going in as well.
