They say the best dyno numbers are from running 4th gear cause it's a 1:1 ratio.... But since I've never ran on a dyno I'd wait for others to chime in on that
1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor
1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)
If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?
Neither 3rd nor 4th is 1:1 in a Festy tranny. I ran it in 4th a few months ago, and decided to use 3rd this time based on what Matt D. did.
As far as a turbo, I'd then "only" have 125ish HP. Thinking about either a BP or a B6D head on Larry's B6 motor, then have Matt D. work on the head, then turbo it. That should give me crank HP of about 240ish (B6D) or 300ish (BP). Especially with a standalone fuel management system.
That's why I'm selling Matthew, to finance Larry's upgrades. BTW I'm not looking to get anything like what I have into it--it's not worth $2500 IMO.
Some features of Matthew ( see pics on page 2, posts 15 and 18 ):
Brakes: stock brakes in good condition. Parking brake cable is broken, but I have a good one for the NO (new owner) to install.
Suspension: New rear Monroe struts, good used KYB GR2 front struts. Stock springs all around.
Body: It's a rusty beater that I have done some work on to repair it, and will do a little more in the next few months. Looks great at 50 yards.
Tires: Cheap but good tread 155/80x13 on Metro steelies. Spare is a full-size 12" Festy steelie with good tire.
Exhaust: in good condition generally, but Dickmeyer header should be re-sprayed with exhaust paint with ceramic in it. Muffler is loud (but sounds nice) at WOT, but pretty quiet at lower RPMs.
Glass is good all around except windshield, which I will replace. About a 50% tint on side glass.
Class 1 tow hitch welded on, thru bumper cover welded to the frame with a gusset on the frame for extra strength. No electrical hookups for trailer have been installed.
Good heat, no A/C.
Good clutch, axles and steering parts.
Interior:
Excellent hybrid console is Protege front/MX3 rear; variable intermittent wiper switch; blue Escort dome light; cheap radio, two front 4" speakers; sporty MX3 front seats, stock Festy rear seat; good (not perfect) parcel shelf.
Oh yeah, just installed a 140-MPH Protege speedo into non-tach cluster. Looks almost original! Needs an aftermarket tach.
Seeing what kind of numbers you got out of Matthew considering the bottom end was untouched or refreshed, I am really curious how my car will do considering that the block is fresh and .030 over. (Although mine still has the stock intake.)
I'm still kinda tempted to take over this build...just not sure I wanna throw cash down on *that* body
Another option is to stick a stock head, intake and exhaust on Matthew and keep him as a winter beater, or sell him. Use the Dickmeyer parts on a cleaner-bodied B3. Plus there's lots of good interior upgrades.

The fresher lower end will make little difference, IMO. It's just that it will hold together longer. The stock intake will definitely be a limiting factor.

I'm not motivated to have Greg run it at the 1/4 anymore, since it won't make any spectacular numbers.

Well, it's basically a B6D, so big deal. Sure it would be the fastest NA B3, but since I already know that and don't want to risk breaking it, 1000 miles from home, I'm gonna pass. At least we now have some good numbers on this build.
Edit: if no one buys it, I'll stick the head on my Aspire and make Matthew my winter beater with a stock head.
