The new turbo is on the car! It took all weekend to do it. Friday night was a sleep night tho. Saturday i got to work around 3 after family stuff was out of the way. I worked until i ran out of my not grandpas RootBeer! Sunday i got the turbo on the car. I wanted to get the g series swap done this week but im just to sore and tired. i have to now work on getting the ecu and the wiring hooked up. I have already bought the new clutch so i will get the car together for my race sunday and then swap the trans.

Between now and Friday i will work on getting the wiring switched to the new ecu, getting my trunk mount meth kit hooked up. and getting the car ready for Sunday! It sucks ill have to be easy on it for my 1st race day but thats ok im sure i suck at driving so going slow is fine.

I have decided to swap the stock trans out for my g series this weekend. I also went ahead and ordered a new clutch kit to handle the new power levels. I went with a kupp stage 3 6 puk capri xr2 clutch kit. No clue how it will do. I have a friend that ran a kupp clutch tell me it was a good deal. If he was happy im happy. Now 6 puk vs full disk is another thing altogether. Some say its fine some complain over nothing so i have no clue how it will be. Only time will tell. I hope to start the rebuild tonight. I have lots to do and no time to do it.

You don't necessarily have to support the turbo directly, but if you attached your brace to the flange adapt you purchased for your manifold, that would do about the same thing.

I bought some angle iron to make some kind of support brace. I also bought some plate that i will make a new mounting bracket for the waste-gate actuator.

I will use the angle iron to come off a tapped hole on the block. I will have to take the turbo into work to get them to tap me a couple holes. Gonna do a simple as possible bracket.

As far as the waste-gate goes i plan to make a plate that reaches around from the original two bolt holes to the other hole on the other side. I will put washers under the plate that i cut out and will have 2 holes in it. The wastegate will then mount to the plate and 1 of the original holes. i will have to trim the wastegate bracket to fit around the aluminum body. ill show pictures of this once i get it done.

So i went ahead and ordered the cheap fabricated exhaust unit because i didnt know if the other was gonna be shipped or not! I placed the order for the 2nd one a week after the 1st one. Turns out the fab unit is 1000% junk and will not be going on my car. I dont think i would even use it as a paper weight. I hope the cast version that i bought is worth it.

I have the oil and coolant lines on order as well. they will be here by the end of the week. The exhaust housing should be in on Wednesday.

Tonight i start taking the car apart. I think i want to remove the bumpre as well and go ahead and do the front core support and add my honda radiator and fan. Would be nice to have it done and out of the way. Plus it would make working on the turbo much easier.

Tonight ill finally grab some pictures of what all i have bought/received so far!
I will be getting pictures of the modifications to the turbo that i have to do in order to make it work!

I will not be able to weld the casting to the adapter at this moment. Im wondering if there is a thread locker that would work in a high heat situation?

I did buy an ARP turbo stud kit tho. Had to do the extra shipping to get it in time. I totally forgot about having to have studs. O well they are in route now.

i have finally ordered all the feed and return lines. Took forever to actually find out what they are. The should all be here by the end of the week. Ill have the turbo all ready to go on by then.

gonna get the car in the garage tonight finally. That damn Audi TT is FINISHED!!!

Lucifer gets all my garage time from now until its back on the road.

Since the manifold is cast, you'll want to preheat it to 500 degrees and weld it with a filler rod that contains a lot of nickel. Inconel alloys seem to work well. I would weld the bolt heads to the adapter as well and have it surfaced after weld to be sure you've got a good sealing surface. Turbo mounting is something you can't pay enough attention to.

I could have the adapter welded on very easily. I will do my best to make a bracket to support the turbo.

For reliability purposes, you may want to have the adapter welded to the manifold in addition to the bolts. I have one of those adapters (actually I have several as I worked with the manufacturer to make them). I never used one, but could see a problem with the way they bolt on. Anyone who has been around turbo cars long enough will tell you that turbo attachment fasteners are the weak link in any aftermarket (and some factory) setup. Furthermore, you may also want to fabricate a bracket to support the turbo. The exhaust manifold should never be used to support a turbocharger by itself, this is asking for trouble.
