        • So I've got the Maruha timing cover on its way but since it's payday I decided to make a few more small purchases. Here's all of the stuff that will accompany my wideband gauge.



          Initially I was going to wait to install these guys until I rewired my power distribution in my glove bod but I forgot I could use my old radio wiring to power them.

          Here's what my gauge setup looked like in my green nb. I might swap out the mtxl for an lc1 later on to match the digital blue also.

                  • I made some progress this weekend. Suspension is back together, trans fluid is in, header is mounted, radiator hoses installed and just about everything else is ready to run. The gauges came in today. I need to add 2 wires from the oil pressure sensor and the coolant temp sensor and those aill be finished. There was a nice hole in the firewall that lets me run the sensors into the cab hassle free. Tomorrow I should have the gauges and everything 100%. After that I'm just waiting for 4x 1/8 npt to 6mm barbed fittings and my vacuum lines will be done. If all of that arrives this week, I should have the car started this weekend. I also hacked up my grill this weekend. It's not perfect but I like it a lot better than before.

                    • I took the carbs down for rebuild last night. While I had them all apart I learned that the jets and venturi are all wrong. My carbs were jetted for a 1200cc engine with max rpm of about 6000. Since my engine is 1600cc and will see above 7000 rpm I had to order all new parts. Yet another delay in the start. On the plus side, with the new setup, estimated horsepower is close to 150-160 at the crank. The weber rep I've been speaking too keeps trying to sell me on a setup that he swears is good for 180 at the wheels. I don't need that much power as much as I need the car to be streetable.



                      I'm also talking to a company about having another intake manifold made. I'll know more about that soon.

                      • That rep's great setup is all well and good if the head can support that power level, but I doubt an untouched head will flow enough for that kind of power at the crank, let alone the wheels. Heck, even warmed over BPs struggle to make that much.
                        Trees aren't kind to me...

                        • The stock head will flow 180hp with just a spec miata legal deshroud job. The cams are the weak link.

                          • ^ True, but to get it, peak power is over 7K rpm, kinda harsh on a BP w/ stock bore/stroke/rod ratio......

                              There is a member here who makes custom intake manifolds. Im having a mind blank on what his forum name is, but if you havent talked to him about it it might be an idea.

                              • Hi gang. I'm going to be taking about a 3 month break from working on the festiva. I was able to get it started this week however I was unable to get it dialed in. Unfortunately, I wont be around to work on it due to some personal circumstances. My girlfriend and I are about to be traveling cross country while we look for a state to call home. We will be living in our rv for at least 2 months.

                                I will continue to check in on you guys when internet permits. Hopefully I will have some news soon.

                                I was pretty bummed out about not being able to tow the festiva around as a commuter. I just ran out of time. My girlfriend did something I couldn't imagine though. She bought me something to drive and autox while we are on the road. It's in no way a replacement for my festiva but it's still pretty awesome. Once we get settled in I plan on daily driving it and my truck while I work on the festiva. Hopefully it wont be too long before I'm back wrenching on it.

                                Here's the new car.
