Hey Red, I knew you drive on the left side but had no idea the engine/ transmission orientation was also opposite. If a guy didn't know any better, he could import an Australian engine/transmission, install in his North American Festiva and have 5 speeds in reverse?'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
'93 Festiva L, 5 speed, Aqua, bought from the original owner,.Zero rust but very nasty otherwise. Awaits the B6T.
'91 Festiva L, 5 speed, bought to drive while putting the B6T in the '93. now B6ME powered.

The radiator is aluminium 2 row honda civic '92 - '00 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-Row-Alu...item2ef94e857b
The lower outlet had to be shifted to the end of tank, due to the front gearbox mount being in the way.

Stumbled across a big box of random mazda parts for $25! All new, original parts still in mazda packaging.
Badges, seals, bolts, mounts, grommets, gaskets, decals, lights, lenses, speakers, horns, springs.... too many parts to list.
Parts are from various mazda models, nothing specifically for a 121, but plenty of useful bits and pieces.

That's a gold mine! (Or maybe opal mine in AU).Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

Disregard the bit above regarding the spindle bolt pattern being different. They are the same.
The whole rear hub assembly from Mazda Demio (DW) should bolt straight onto the festiva (WA)/ 121 (DA) rear beam. It will effect your offset slightly, by my calculations it will push your wheel outwards by approx 10mm.
Here is how it all goes together, washers used for camber/toe setting etc. Not sure what angle the camber is at, and by my eye it looks close to neutral toe.
When I get some decent wheels that fit properly, I will adjust it all again for better accuracy. It's not really a priority until she is running anyway.
So parts used so far from 1999 Mazda Demio/121
- power steering rack (depowered, approx 3 revolutions from lock to lock)
-front knuckles/disc brakes,
-rear beam/drum brakes.
-electric side mirrors
Also, advanced suspension coilovers have been fitted to all four corners.Last edited by reddragon; 05-05-2017, 10:31 PM.

She is starting to take shape..
Matte white base coat with a semi gloss clear. Bumpers are matte black, and thinking about taking the matte black down each side at that same level.
Tried something different for the grille.
Should be firing her up in the next week or three - just need to mount battery, make some battery cables, install gas filler pipe, fill with oil/fuel/coolant and bleed the brakes first.
Then fit windscreen, seats, tidy up the interior and finish painting exterior. And hopefully the wheels/tyres (195/45r16) off my '97 will squeeze under the guards (sorry, fenders) for the time being. Those wheels can be seen on page 2 of this thread, on the green demio.Last edited by reddragon; 05-24-2017, 05:43 AM.

Ok, so fired her up for the first time. Was surprised how easily it started, it is idling smooth, sounds great..... but is blowing a blunderbuss of white smoke.
Added restriction to turbo oil feed, checked it was draining ok back into sump. Unbolted exhaust from flange. Still smoke.
Removed turbo and exhaust manifold, exhaust ports on head are wet/oily. Pulled spark plugs, and there seems to be quite a bit of oil in the cylinders.
Compression seems fine, she starts first crank every time, idles well, sounds great. But with the amount of smoke she is blowing, I haven't let her run for more than 30 seconds at a time. I'm surprised a fire truck hasn't rocked up, it's that smoky!
Any suggestions? Should I just let it run for longer, bring the revs up and burn the oil off, or is that the wrong way to approach this?Last edited by FestYboy; 07-04-2017, 06:41 PM.
