  • Festiclese II - Revenge of the Banhammer Build Thread (And background story)

    Hey guys and gals,

This will be the build thread for Festiclese II. But some people might ask: What happened to the first Festiclese? Here is the story:

The first Festiclese was the first car I ever built when I lived in Lakeland, FL. It was built on a shoestring budget (It was built in about 2011 so I was around 18-19 years old and fresh out of school at the time). It had pretty dilapidated B6T/G5MR set-up with sketchy suspension set-up but I was young and dumb and didn't care and loved the car.

But then, in 2012, my drug addicted older brother decided that me asking him to turn down music at 3:30am in the morning was just me being evil, so he decided to do this to my beloved car, ending the legacy of Festiclese. The cops ruled it as an engine fire and refused to do anything even though the engine was literally the only thing unscathed in the fire:

This caused me to pretty much leave everything in Florida behind to start a new life in Connecticut. Since moving up here I learned a lot about properly assembling a car by building my 1984 Toyota Cressida with a 2JZ and learning the value of quality parts (actually having disposable income helps a bit too). Since I moved however I always went back and forth about owning another Festiva. Fast forward to December 2016 when I finally broke down and bought this car, which I appropriately called "Festiclese II: Revenge of the Banhammer:

Here's where the build starts. Picked up a set of wheels to match what Festiclese had (1986 RX7 Wheels):

And recently, got what I deemed the "Sacrificial Goat". a VERY rusty 1991 Mercury Capri XR2 with 102K miles on it:

I've set myself a budget for this car: $2000 without obvious basic maintenance costs (brakes, gaskets, etc unless it would go extravagantly over a regular OE part like performance tires vs the stock OE 155s so it would be a subtraction of normal cost), anything sold off the the car or parts go goes towards the budget.

I'll make sure to be adamant to post up updates here when I do major work or progress on the car.
    Current cars:

1993 Ford Festiva 5-Speed - Festiclese III - Cousin of the Banhammer - "The Jalopnik Car"
    1984 Toyota Cressida - 2JZGE Swap, Turbocharged.
2013 Mazda Mazda2 - Exhaust and Wheels (the daily)
    2002 Toyota Tundra - V6/Auto/2WD - The Tow Vehicle.

Checked the rear to find some grinding wheel bearings and some very neglected drum brakes so decided to order everything to fix it. Going to be swapping to the Capri front brakes so I'll cross that (ridiculously difficult for no reason) bridge when I can. I had some leaking rear cylinders which caused the brake master go dry and now the spring won't return.

Yep! I remember that from the last time I did the Capri brake swap when I had my first one.

We'll see, last time I did the brake swap I had plenty of pedal to lock up the front tires if I recall right even with a stock MC and Booster.

Locking up the brakes is not a measure of a good system.
