        Very nice work...I'm impressed.

        Very brave...I would have bagged or egg-crated the valve components...I'm way to forgetful to keep them sorted.

        When I took my valves for grinding....I gave the shop a copy of the factory manual with dual angle but hey came back with the single.

        Nice valve spring compressor....that type is the best.

        How does that "Power Lube" stuff work? I've always been liberal with motor oil or Moly.

        Did you pin/measure the valve sleeves?

        What's with the cam...It looks like the lobes have bee welded...or are my eyes that bad.

          Oh, it's just penetrating oil. I was using it to clean some parts. I use engine oil and assembly lube (moly), too.

          The valve guides? Yes, I mic'd them (small hole/ball gage and 0-25mm mic). They were within spec, but I don't recall the actual numbers. Very close to 7mm.

          That's just moly lube squirted on the lobes.

            quick update;

            got the head reinstalled tonight, along with the intake manifold, rockers and valve cover. Got a few other parts cleaned. No pics (forgot my camera). I'll get some tomorrow.

              I thought the festiva also had an Antimatter containment unit!
              Thanks Jim!
              To think I was originally preparing to change the valve cover gasket, before this happened.

                          Jim..thanks for the response!

                          To all....this is why a head gasket job by a shop is worthless...if a head gasket is required...so is all the other detailed work Jim has done...a local shop will never do what Jim has done.

                          Jim just extended the life of the head/engine well beyond what a head gasket alone would have provided.

                          Not IMO....a fact.

                            more updates;

                            since the small formed coolant hose between the head and bypass tube is not available, I made my own with the aid of some 5/16" tubing;

                            replacing the front crank seal;

                            this seal was a total pain to remove. I haven't encountered one this difficult in a long time. Getting it out almost left me feeling sexually violated!

                            new seal being installed with the Ford tool

                            all clean, and new water pump too!

                            getting things back together

                            the stack of old and broken parts is steadily growing;

                            and the box of new parts is nearly gone!!

                            should have her a-purrin' tomorrow...
