thanks guys! I'll keep them on my radar with plans for a swap next year. I've never done an engine swap but i figure i'll get some decent practice pulling a motor out of a car at the junkyard.

Can you keep the AC with the B8?

good question! Will i be able to keep my as yet to function AC system? If not, what motors would allow it?

Next quest is to find an affordable manifold for that b8-me.
eurotiva:Are you using a flange on the end of the oem manifold or was something made from scratch?

I was tempted to purchase a "chingchong" ebay manifold for the BP engine, then have a B8-me flange made from a gasket, finally rewelding it to the BP manifold. Is that a bad idea? Is the OEM sufficient flow for the turbo and limitations of the stock assembly?

You can keep the a/c but you have to use the water pipe that comes with the b3 bc it clears the a/c compressor. I am using a stock b8 manifold. My turbo is mounted at the rear of the car for multiple reasons. 1. I had to have a/c bc I live FLorida. 2. I wanted stock temps. under the hood. The stock b8 manifold is alot larger than a b3 manifold. And the sohc 16 valve motor only came in protege dx.

is it a direct bolt in? if i got one, what would I need? I have an atx, so my tranny can probably handle the B8 16v hp, but whatabout other parts? I know I need ecu. do I need the b8 16v fuelpump, airfilter and other such things?

You will need the ecu and the maf (mass air sensor) and that's it. All else bolts right up. I did not even cut any wires in my harness. It also helps to get the exhaust flange that meets the cat. on the donor car. The front motor mount hole did have to be moved about 1 inch tho.

Can you use the whole down pipe from the exhaust manifold to the cat?

It is easy and you use the down pipe from the protege because it has flex to it. Alot of jy have these and plenty of them.
