Yeah I was going to say to make sure you read all the directions and internet info. Many people have there preferred ways of using seafoam and how to use it. Soooo just make sure you follow the directions and read about it before diving in :p

Stuff works great though! and your festy will be fine I'm sure

I would either slowly pour it down the carb if you're carbed, suck it through a vacuum hose, and/or pour a can in a full tank of gas. All of them are a good idea. I've never put it in the oil though...that doesn't sound like a good idea.

It says right on the can that it is alright to put in the oil.

If any of you have Subarus, this stuff works absolute miracles on them! Something about the boxer design builds up a lot of gunk in the heads. Half a can into the intake via a vacuum hose, let it sit for 10 minutes, start it and put the engine under load for a bit, car will run much better. I've done it to all 7 of my Subies and my Festy. Greatly improved the idle in my little Ford.

If my comment caused you that much stress, I'll pm the owner and ask to disable my account. I can only speak from my experience with Seafoam. Several people locally told me it would work on the HLA's/lifters I had that were clicking. I left it in (1/2 can) and drove the car for about 3000 miles before the next oil change.
As stated above, it PLAINLY states on the can that it is for use in both gas and oil. At least the southern version does. Didn't realize I had pee'd in your cheerio's until I read your comment. Oh,my motor has approx 100K miles on it and doesn't use oil.

FYI, Easy Off oven cleaner works well for cleaning pistons too.

Thank you sir! I think it's the best way to describe it, even better than steam cleaner imho. TBH, you don't really need to - your meth injection system will serve the exact same function. But if you need extra coverage for off-boost driving, then go for it.

Yep - basically anything of a friendly-to-engine nature will work. Water, methanol, alcohol, ethanol, Seafoam, lighter fluid, etc. You just have to be careful if it's water, but it'll work really well for this purpose if done in really really small doses.

I kinda gave up on seafoam the effects never seemed to last. On this last Festiva I put 1 ounce of MMO in each cylinder and left it a week. Next trip I take I'll put two ounces in each and leave it. I kick myself for not doing a compression check but it did seem to lessen blowby purrs on the highway now. Also put a couple ounces in the oil which I shouldn't of done with a few oil leaks. With MMO you can leave it in the entire oil change unlike seafoam.

Thats exactly it, seafoam is a combustable agent thats why everyone notices the big diffrence when running it in a fuel system. Once its gone so is the performance. I have noticed this along time ago. Ya it is good stuff for cleaning deposits and such but half a 5th of moonshine does the same thing except shoot fire out the exhaust.

Sometimes, if you have too much carbon build up, loosening it up is not the best idea. It's like doing an engine or transmission flush. When it comes to cleaners and additives, you have to determine how bad it really is and weigh the possible consequences.

I will say, I've only had good results from using Seafom. However, using the Pennzoil Ultimate in my Festy was an epic fail! I now loose about a 1/2 quart of oil every 100 miles through the breather due to excessive blow-by. The motor is sparkling clean inside, but no ring seal left. The oil did not cause the issue, it just exposed the mechanical condition.

                            sea foam story

wife drives a 04 hyundai that has 150k on it. last month i though a can of sea foam in it (1/3 in the intake) before i started to fill the tank @ the gas station put the rest in the tank. she was really nerves about all the smoke. i drove to portland O.R. (200miles) and then re-filled the tank and let her drive back she was extremely impressed with the improvement it made. the fact that she noticed the difference when she doesn't notice the engine light come on or.... anything, then when the improvement was enough for her to notice, was impressive to me

I was thinking the same thing. As a fellow mechanic Ive seen plenty of good and bad byproducts of many engine "cleaning" additives. Some work well and some don't, usually depends on the engine to begin with and whats crudded and where (which is exactly what Geneva said).

Telling someone off because they are the wary consumer in a thread full of advocates is a little over the top, particularly when the item in question is related to the longevity of your vehicle.

So heres the story My Festiva ran like complete crap before I got the Sea-Foam, I added it to my gas tank and ran it hard for 150 miles and now the car seems to run perfect with no weird smells, no more idle problems, and it doesnt stall at every light or stop sign anymore
I have one tough looking festiva...even though it has 63hp :dj:
