  • Rollin home in the 1.3, saw a Mercedes with a blown ball joint, resulted in cv shaft pulling apart, which dumped cv balls onto pavement.... and in the process of going around the disabled vehicle.....

Quick thinking! Hardened steel balls, covered in grease and rock hard 13" tires! Clipped a cv ball, shot out, as pavement wouldn't bite the carbon steel, grease wouldn't let rubber hold a grip, and small hard tire wouldn't roll over,

Giant BB gun! Ball shot out to the side and whacked a dent in the disabled vehicles passenger door!

    Score for the 1.3!!!

      • Changed out the transmission fluid in my 5-speed since I don't know how long it was in there.

Dumped in some Pennzoil Syncromesh since everyone on here who has tried it swears by it.

Took it for a drive, hardly if any difference in shift quality, I am sure the only difference I am feeling is just a Placebo effect. Whatever was in there just looked like Merc, or Dex/Merc, just a red color atf.
Of course I only drove a few miles, so I can't say for sure yet on the overall quality.

after cleaning up and emptying the drain pan, I noticed the metal washer/gasket shimmering at the bottom... FFFFFFFuuuuuu!!!!!!

As long as I see no leaks, I don't care.

        • Im wondering if there's still residual ATX on your gears, mines been sittinv for a couple days Im gonna drain it again with a little bit of the new stuff before I install the axles....may or may not do anything. The real reason for the slop in my shifter was the "fall through the floor" problem you get when the rubber around the shifter fails. I filled the gap with adhesive eurethane basically a paintable seam sealer and than Im going to see if a Ford Probe shifter will work instead of the stocker...its almost 2 inches shorter! Throw might be shortened a bit who knows.

          • Today, first time its rained since ive owned the car (3.5 months heh) and I experienced the quintessential black oily tire well tidepool. Mousepadded the tails up, drilled two drain holes. I\m not going to flex seal or paint it because i do want to add a hitch in the next few months. less is more.

If you are scoring a good deal on probe shidter, see if the center console is out of the question to make fit in a festiva. Just a hunch i have...

              • Ordered a brand new pair of headlight for the aspire.

                Not the bulbs.
                The housings.

Now every tail light, turn signal, sidemarkers, and headlights will all be brand new and factory fresh.

No more yellow aged headlights making night driving suck.
Or having to buff and polish over and over again almost 18 yr old plastic.
                Running 40psi.....in my tires.

Probably, but I wasn't going to spend another $25 to get 3 more bottles to flush out the rest. I just popped the bolt out, went inside for about 20-30min, came back out and put the bolt back in and filled it.

I will say, maybe it does slide into gears a tad smoother. But It was mostly preventative maintence, only a couple dollars more a bottle for the Syncromesh over Coastal Mercon, and even cheaper with my discount. tad over $25 for 3 bottles, and a transmission funnel.

                      Gotta love employee discounts.

Also on a side note I am using a Civic shortshifter

                      • def, you are the man. I went to TWO yards last week and none had festivas. O, the irony of going to yards specifically for escort and rio suspension and drivetrains (plenty), only to find no festivas to try out interior modding theories. Dont get picky either, a press fit with lots of trimming is more than OK. shifter and ebrake lining up and a half decent armrest is all i want. the slide out cupholder is neat but i really want the armrest and storage to work, dont care what its out of

                          • If the probe shifter sucks Ill definately look into the civic shifter! For the flush Id just use half of synchromesh to just get a little bit extra of the old stuff out..it cost me 45 bux for the 3 bottles lol
