You'll need a top end gasket set which will be about $100. I can chip in $30 via Paypal.

Oh, this is getting good. I'm thinking whatever money towards gaskets ought to go to Zanzer and he can ship them with the head. He might get a deal, plus he probably knows the best brand. Also, I don't have a Paypal account anymore, I got burned the 1st 3 times (and only 3 times) I used it.

I'll pop for the antifreeze and a new thermostat. Probably need a new timing cover gasket as well as that one has been taking an oil bath. She thinks the head was off before, which is why I think maybe the rocker shafts might not be torqued down correctly.

Per the gaskets: In my experience I've found that it's a little cheaper to buy them separately and you don't have a bunch of stuff left over that you [probably] won't use. Here's a list of prices and what I use on my rebuilds (all Fel-Pro).

          Head gasket - $20
          Intake gasket - $8
          Exhaust gasket - $6
          Valve Cover gasket - $17
          Camshaft seal - $4
          Throttle Body gasket -$3
          Distributor O-ring - $1
          Thermostat gasket - $1.50

That's approximately $60 for the gaskets. With new valve guides and valve stem seals we're looking at around $110 for everything to rebuild and swap the head (unless I missed something, someone check behind me here)

Larry, the timing cover dust seal set is Fel-Pro part # ES 72765 and it's $24.

I have a commercial account at Advance so I can take this list and see if I can get a better deal. I'm kinda tight with a couple of the guys and many times I can get them to give me a better deal and flag it as a "price match" in the system

Actually, now that I think about it, the timing gasket may not be bad, it may be the upper cover itself. There is a gap up top, the cover has pulled away from the head. Too tight? Too hot? Is this normal? Will an Aspire cover work? Festfull may have a spare.

I'm going to try and drag Feisty to my house tomorrow night. I've got a buddy with a tow dolly that I can borrow. (I haven't gotten my tow bar finished yet.)

Those covers are notorious for warping like that. Sometimes you can take a heat gun and straighten them back out. An Aspire upper cover is exactly the same as a Festy but the lower cover isn't due to the timing marks. But luckily the lower cover isn't prone to warpage like the upper and they're usually in good shape even when the upper is bad. I've replaced many uppers but I don't think I've had to replace a single lower yet.

Also guys, I had a bit of an epiphany last night

I think I may have a usable cylinder head here! I sold an 88LX and an Aspire motor to a friend of mine about a year ago. Well, about 6 months ago he finally decided to start swapping the motor (in my driveway) and he has everything removed and the engine is just sitting in the framerails waiting to be pulled. Since the 88 bottom end is trashed and he has a complete Aspire motor for it, he won't be needing the cylinder head. And although it has solid lift valvetrain, I should have the rocker rails to swap it over to hydraulic with HLAs.

I'm gonna send him a text today and tell him I'm stealing his cylinder head off the car LOL. Maybe if there's nothing left to pull but the shortblock he'll finally come over and finish it and get it out of my driveway...2 birds, 1 stone hahaha

                    Also, my PayPal is KitschCustoms@yahoo.com

I'm going to go ahead and order valve guides today because I have to get 2 additional sets for a couple of heads I'm rebuilding for Kartracer and it usually takes them about 3 days to arrive from Rock.

I'll weight and measure the head when I get it taken off and get a shipping quote from UPS.

Ok, I just placed the order for new valve guides with Rock Auto - $25

                        And I've received $$$ from Danny (Kumalaba) - $55

So right now we're $30 on the plus side

I'll pull the head off the 88LX tonight and I'll take the parts list to Advance in the morning and see what kind of deal I can get my buddy Jeff to cut us. I'd go today but their commercial counter closes at 2pm.

If there's any money left over from this deal, we can refind it to donors or put it in a pot for the next charitable fix, or donate it to the forum for expenses.

Someone mentioned in my previous thread about designing a graphic I believe.

It would be cool to get a sticker that said something like: "This Festiva is still on the road thanks to the FordFestiva.com forum" or something to that effect.
