Cool, that mix makes sense, thanks. Glad I haven't bought oil yet!
Yeah, I figured I could get any big flakes out while I have it loose, then I can seafoam it once it is running for the complete clean.
Speaking of carbon, is that Lucas fuel additive worth it for regular or even occasional use? Some counter guy was trying to sell it to me, but my experience with it is zilch.

the TPS issue... i'd need to research (i have the FSMs to verify).
Rotella 15-40 and 5-20HD at a 50% mix = 10ish-30HD (kinda). for the ATF, no more than .25 qt (atf isn't a good lube...).
as for the carbon deposits: you can seafoam or water fog the engine while running (warm) to steam clean the cylinders.

Oh, I also saw some carbon on top of the 1 and 4 pistons. I might try to suck some out. I made an attachment for my wet dry vac years ago, that terminates in a drinking straw to get into tight places. Shoot, I might even try to get into 2 and 3 as well

Dude, no apologies needed!
Yeah, Pulled the plugs right away, and squirted a little PB in last night, just as soon as I was home. I plan on rolling it over by hand a little in a few hours. I am pulling parts off for paint. I have all the gaskets on order, and will reassemble, pull the B3 and drop the B6 in Saturday evening. I even bought assembly lube, since it has been sitting so long, thought I might squeeze some in at some critical points.
Rotella 5-20 mix? I am not sure what you mean, can you elaborate, or did you mean use Rotella oil, at 5w20?
I should have thought of ATF, good idea. How much would you suggest, a half pint maybe?
And do you know if there is any difference between the throttle body ATX compared to the MTX other than TPS? The listing says it ts the same between the B3 and the B6. I am thinking I can use the one of my B3. Which would mean I am all set to go!

Paul, do yourself a favor and hit the cylinders with some PB while you're preping for the swap, you don't want to start with sticking rings. also once you get it in, you won't time it like a Festy, you need it to sit at 10-12* depending on the quality of your fuel. the first oil change should be a rotella and 5-20 mix for the much needed zink. you could add some (small amount) of ATF for the added detergent value, or find some 5-20HD oil.
as far as transmissions, you use the flywheel/clutch for the trans, not the engine.
i'm sorry i missed the start of the thread, i would have jumped in.

I hope so!Originally posted by freshtiva View PostBut it makes a big difference.
I have a question. Can I use the manual TPS off my B3 on that throttle body?

B6....
Acquired!
There she is, all hemmed in by bigger engines. She sat there, collecting dust, since some time before 1995! 49K on her.

This dude got her down.

Dig the recycling of old parts for the counter balance on the hoist

Strapped in and ready to come to her new home!

The spark plugs came out like they were greased up, easy peasy.

The rest of the album...

I looked up the AZ part number for a 1992 Mazda 323 with a MTX, and the Festiva MTX Throttle position sensor. They both are the same! I should be able to use the festy one, no?

I got the ECU as well. Planning the day for tomorrow right now!

I am going for a 90-94 323 ECU from a MTX marked B61K and two plugs.
I need a three wire TPS for the throttle body, I have sourced one from a 93 Protege SOHC for $35. MTX (edited)
Extend brake line, be sure to install/align check valve.
Splice IAC, Large gauge to large, small to small.
Swap all Festy stuff over. Disty, flywheel, starter, water outlet/thermostat housing.
Is the Water pump the same? I plan on a new one. That pipe across the front of the engine, too sleepy to think of the name. swap it over, right?
Modify Exhaust. Flex pipe will do for now.
Swap Festy intake wiring onto the B6 Intake. B3 injectors COULD work, though, just in case?
Modify Throttle cable.
Feel free to edit if I missed something!

Paint! I want to paint it up some! What is a good brand of paint for holding up to heat, and time? Rattle can that is?

Yup, there is an LKQ that has some possible b8 cars that I will check.
Thanks for all the help so far, guys! I have a feeling I will need more later!

Sounds like a good deal. I paid that much for one with around 80K miles back around 2005 for my first swap.
You should have a large nose crank and you know you'll need a TB off an MTX car. A Protege DX (B8 engine) will work fine to provide that part.
Have a good road trip!
