In its current condition could you review how the car runs ?
Does it start easy cold ? and how about hot after say 5 min shut down?
does it idle smooth or?
does it drive okay in town?
does it cruise at 60 okay?
does it have power to pass another car?

Yes to all the questions.
89 Festiva. carby. needs repairs!!
First time owner
89 L carb'd - white / still needs work
Bought for mpg and only paid $250
Too much fuel. Cylinder wash and then blow by, oil pushed into
air filter. Other possibility, low compression on a cylinder, but
not 0, something like about 100 PSI.
Discussion.. your needle and seat are probably okay based on your
response to questions. The mixture control solenoid could be bad.
You should start soaking your O2 with penetrating oil to get it out.
Your CEL light is not coming on? With the 24mpg you are getting it
should be. Does it come on when you turn the key on?
Free tool program at AZ or Oreilly's borrow a compression gauge
and test your compression. Pull all spark plugs, hold throttle open
and crank for 10 seconds. Read gauge. Hold coil wire between your
legs while cranking to prevent damage to ignition module...joking
please unplug small wires from coil, same reason report back!

Your gas mileage is still 24 ? get the denso O2 . The entire feedback system
is locked rich because the o2 is reporting lean but not enough to throw code 17
Hopefully with the new o2 the rest of the feedbacks will unlock from rich and work
normally. If you want there is a good at home test you can do to check the rest
of the Carb and feedback for function.
^^what he,said.
Blue/gray smoke- burning oil
Black smoke- too rich
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power... http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...77-my-89-build
