What a mess...Time to dissassociate from there, now even the house has a Jerry Springer rep with the community, including the police.
Plenty of time for payback later in life.

It's hard tell you to not seek revenge, but the best thing for you would be to remove yourself from the situation entirely. Life will get even with your brother eventually and you won't need to have any involvement other than watching from afar.

What Brian (Blkfordsedan) and Geneva and others have suggested: You need to get out of this situation or call in some outside help. I have no idea which is more realistic, but I'd see about leaving first. If you can't, ask your Mom for some kind of outside help. However, that may not work too well. If the Fire Dept. and cops won't even investigate this, how will they help you if another event happens?

You might even take Nerd up on his futon offer if you can get off work without losing your job. Or maybe it's time to switch jobs?

If you beat up your brother, I bet the cops won't mind investigating that when he goes crying to them with his mother's backing. I don't think that's a good option.

I sympathize with losing your car, but that should tell you something. This should be seen as a life-changing event. Either you need to leave or your bad brother does.

You might want to post how old you are. I'm assuming you're over 18 though.

+1 with all the above. You def don't want to beat him up and compound your own problems. Get out of there, regroup and move on. He will end up in prison at some point, which is where society needs him to be. Just hope he doesn't get there by hurting people physically.

Yeah, I'm with Karl. What the hell? The cops refuse to do anything? It's arson! You must live in one of those small towns where the force is lazy and poorly funded. If I were in your position, I'd take the NY option (go Greyhound or by train). Just make sure that you're doing the best you can to become self-sufficient. Sometimes the switch to adulthood is an unpleasant one...

Being fairly close to buffalo usually means people can find work in the area, or within a reasonable drive. We have quite a few retail/food service places around and a little bit of industry right in the small town I live in.

You could totally come live in Canada for a while! There are quite a few people on here in my general area, and I am sure you could take turns living at different places!

                              On a more serious note......

+1 for the not taking any revenge option! This will not get you anywhere (as I think you know already).

You really need to take a step back and ask yourself what is important to you (not just the car, but everything.....aka job, girl friend, family, belongings, etc.). If you dont have anything big holding you back, this would be the perfect opportunity for an extended trip somewhere. I know you do love your brother, mother, etc, and leaving is tough, but if you think of it as a temp thing (maybe a 2 year period), it may be really great for you.

My wife and I moved completely accross the country (Vancouver BC to Amherst NS) (use google to see how far that is, lol), so we could get our marriage off on the right track without the influence of our protective parents (we married young, she was 19, I was 20). We ended up moving back about a year later, and after 5 years, we still look back and say it was a great experience!

Maybe take some time to think about everything, and if you have no one that you can talk with (like seriously talk with), you can PM me and I will give you my number........
