I think this is the newest Rio trans thread. What's the latest? Is it really a G series? Different enough that it clears the rack better? Does it move the inner CV's rearward in the car? Anyone weigh one vs. a Festiva e-series?

It def is NOT a G series, but it has a G diff. And obviously a F clutch. And since it has an F clutch it leads me to believe that the gears and input shaft are F series. But still way better than an e series. Plus its NON Hydro!

I really like the gear ratios of the later box (.97 4th and .79 5th). Guess I gotta hit some junkyards... 1.6L Kia Rio is it? F-clutch, what flywheel?

I'm going to be using a Rio flywheel. By next weekend, I'll know if the swap can be done with an F series flywheel (I have one to compare).

The 4th and 5th gear ratios you list are for early transmissions. 2003 and later have a .91:1 4th and a .73:1 5th.

I could be wrong though. I read that '01 had a 4.17:1 final drive and '02 had a 3.90:1, but zoom zoom counted the teeth in his '02 and came up with 4.105:1

I'll be using a Rio clutch.

Hmmm, other thread linked above had the later cars getting the closer ratios. Gotta see what I can find.

1.6 flywheel? That'll bolt on your B8? I'll be doing it with a B3. Might be stuck with the B3 flywheel and making a starter work.

I'm using a flywheel off of a 1.5 liter. Rio engines, until they went to Hyundai parts (in 2006?), are based on the Mazda B series design.

Dang, service manuals show only the close ratio gearing for the 2001-2005, with a 4.167 final drive ratio...

(Service manuals are online at kiatechinfo.com)

Where's some good docs on the f g and e series differences?

I mention these series to junk yards and they just stare at me...

What years/cars had what and such...

I'm not sure what my aspire has.

                        Much appreciated.

Something tells me I'm lucky to still have a functional gearbox after snapping clutch countless times @5800rpm...

But, dang the Escort GT trans is even closer ratio. Suck it up and go that route? About the same weight? (Stock trans is a little under 60 pounds) Same size around the diff (where it is close to the rack)? Just need different mounts?

Yup, read that. Nothing comparing the Kia trans to a real G series.
