I'm pretty sure the end needs clocked 90* too doesn't it? Or is that just for the G series swap? I remember having to flip the ujoint tho.

Pretty much like you said. Bang the hump on the back of the cross member flat, mark the holes and drill. Space the cross member about an inch lower and you're done.

Got around the shift linkage length problem by relocating the shifter back. After mounting everything, I only needed an inch.

I'm using the stock shift linkage, rebuilt with pieces off the Rio one plus a Civic short shifter.

More to come when I get back from vacation.

Update

Ended up tweaking the mounts a bit and went back to the Rio shift linkage. It's a bolt in, but you will have to locate it back a bit if you don't shorten it (mine is now a touch more than an inch back).

Another update

After living with this transmission for a week, I have a few observations.

1). 5th gear is wonderful. I can ride around in 5th and from a little over 30 MPH, I don't need to shift with the B8. It revs a bit high on the highway (65 MPH is a little over 3000 RPM), but stepping on the gas will definitely put a smile on your face :icon_smile: The other gears are about the same as the Aspire trans I had, but 4th is perfect for slow cruising city streets.

2). This is an easy swap for anyone looking for something stronger than stock and can't find a G series with the intermediate shaft. The axles fit a little tight. At full suspension drop they are very close to binding up, but as long as you don't make it a habit of getting air with your car, it won't be a problem.

You'll have to make some cross member mods though. The stock rear mount has to go completely, you'll need to flatten out a bit of the hump in the rear (try putting a mount in the back and you'll see exactly where and how much). While I was at it, the plate on the cross member was removed also. The oval hole in the back happens to be right where a bolt on the rear mount will go. You could put a plate back there and drill a hole or use a large (LARGE) washer.

If you ever want to go back to an E series trans, with some washers, the Rio mount will fit on the back of an E series. The stock rear mount can be made to work on a Rio trans if you shave a bit off the case. I tried it and it fits, but the Rio mounts are way better and will place the transmission in the car in a better position.

3). The Rio linkage fits like it was made for the car. Its built better and has a support in the back that guarantees that your shifter won't fall down ever again. You'll need to drill two holes to use it. The only thing is it's a bit long. Two ways around this. Locate the shifter back a bit or shorten it. If you don't shorten it, using the stock shifter rod with the rest of the Rio setup works great and yes, a Civic short shifter will work.

It occurs to me that a Rio short shifter would be a perfect upgrade. It would fit like stock.

If you want to do this swap, you'll need the following parts.

The transmission.

The block plate for a Rio. My F series stuff went in the last scrap run, so I don't know if the F series block plate or flywheel will work (I have a feeling they will).

A Rio starter (F series might work).

New bell housing bolts if you want to lower the trans. The old ones will work. I lowered mine at first, but in the end, I put it back in the stock position.

Optional (but recommended by me). New flywheel and clutch bolts.

The reverse light/neutral start switch off of your current transmission.

Except for the mounts and cross member mods, this is your typical transmission swap. The only wiring to be done is the switch swap and lengthening one wire to the starter.
