Here is a picture of the cruise control computer mounted on a left hand computer plate and the Viper controller mounted on the right hand computer plate. They are mirror images. Now, I have to rip out all of the computer wiring attached to the three yellow connectors

Today I found a 93 GL auto Festiva in the junkyard.
It had dealer installed cruise control and I pulled the whole system.
The control module says SCS?/Frigette and also Specific Cruise Systems Inc.
A Google search of those brings up Victory Climate Systems but no information on this cruise control system.
I got the steering column plastic with control stalk installed, control module, wiring harness, and the servo. However, I could not find the speed sensor. The speedometer cable was connected to the transmission and the cluster with no speed sensor in between. I am pretty sure I did not miss the speed sensor down on the transmission.
So, I need a speed sensor. There was a two pin wire hanging down by the end of the transmission cable. I assume it was for the speed sensor.
The connector looks like this one:
Would this speed sensor work?
Would one from another car- like an Escort work?
The control module has very simple wiring-
1 wire for power, 2 for ground, 3 go to the server, 2 for speed sensor, and 2 more were spliced into a couple of wires under the dashboard. I'm assuming this was for the brake switch. This module is from an automatic car. Will it work in a manual? Also, what about a cancel input for the clutch switch.~Austin

Well, today I looked over several cars in the yard. Tempos, Taurri, Escorts, 626s use different speedo cables and sensors.
The only older Protege with cruise was missing the speedo cable and speed sensor.
Not sure if it uses the same style as a Festiva or not.~Austin

So if I wanted to put cruise on my BP do I need to find a generic/stock kit for an early protege? Then find a speed sensor for a festiva?-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This cruise kit on the Bay looks like it contains a lot of identical parts to the Festiva kit. I believe the computer works on the principle of maintaining the pulse rate of the the spinning magnet in the speed sensor. As long as you can connect the imperial threaded speed sensor, you should be fine.
Does anyone know what a cruise control adjuster is for? I wonder if it provides additional support for the speed sensor while it is screwed in perpendicular into the speedo gear? I put an offer on one of them to find out. It looks like the sensor is cradled in the bulge at the top. A longer bolt will be needed to hold down the speedo gear.
Since I threw away my ECU, I did not use the extra hole I drilled beside the vacuum booster for the cruise wiriing. I simply used the former ECU sensor wires for a connection to the speed sensor.Last edited by bravekozak; 01-01-2013, 11:07 AM.

Doesn't it just try to match the number of pulses that the computer keeps in memory when you push set speed? I think it only matters that the number of pulses are within a specific range (i.e. not too slow so that it thinks that the vehicle is moving less than 40). The computer probably has a correlation of speed to pulses, but it should still maintain whatever speed you set.Last edited by bravekozak; 01-01-2013, 11:15 AM.

Page 82 contains the RX-7 cruise control wiring schematic. I will dig up a switch and verify the wire colors.
