Went out at around 7pm to spray the final 2 coats.
Didn't work out so great though. The gun was blowing little paint bubbles out onto the car. I wiped the fresh paint of the car with a rag and took the gun inside and stripped the hole thing down and cleaned it up. I guess I will try again tomorrow. I figure I will have to wet sand off the paint residue from the "incident" in the morning and if all goes well spray some paint in the late afternoon/evening.
I thing part of the problem is possibly the tip for the gun is too small for the metallic element in the paint and it isn't all spraying out the tip, some of the big chunks are staying behind to clog up the gun. I just hope I can at least spray these last 2 coats with no more problems.

On a brighter not I did order a pair of clear bumper lights for the car though so that cheers me up a little bit. I love waiting for car parts to be delivered I am like a kid on Christmas.

Sweet. Never would have been my pick as far as color goes, but I'm digging it. Hope you get the nozzle sorted out and the last coats on. That thing will be looking crazy.drool

I'm glad to see that you are taking your time on this project and not doing a quick rush job. Even though I am a green freak, I thinking the silver is gonna be very unique. Can't wait to see the final product.

going to go out and work on spraying some more coats of paint after I eat some dinner. I will post some pics up later.

I am thinking about grabbing some Protege LX power mirrors from the junkyard this week & painting them for the car too. What all do I need from the donor car? Mirrors, interior trim pieces, screws, How much wiring do I need? I know there should be wiring in the festiva doors for the mirrors but I don't know If it includes from the door harness to the mirror itself.

                Any help would be appreciated!

^ mirror wiring should be in the doors already.

well, that didn't go so well...
Sags, runs, & I think I need to change my disposable air line filter.

Wet sand & try again I guess.

This is really wearing me down mentally. I will be glad when I am done.

                        2nd gen. My dad has a 2001.

This aluminum paint is pretty weird. It is pretty thin right out of the can. I reduced it this time with 10% mineral spirits. I think I need to lay a real light coat down first as a tack coat and come back like half an hour to an hour later and lay another heavier coat down.

                            Slow,
Had to take a little break and let the paint dry up some before I wet sanded it again. I hope to make another go at spraying some paint in the next couple of days. This time I think I know what the flaw in my technique was and hope to have it corrected.

My problem was I sprayed the pillar that separates the windshield and the drivers side window, the front fender, and from the door back all separately.
I must of overlapped a little too much because it ran like crazy where all that came together. It is hard to see the paint go on when the car already has the color coat on it. It was a lot easier spraying the color coat on white primer!

Anybody thought about using a minivan gas door and adding the release cable? Just a thought!
