Yeah. I don't have a problem with Walmart Inc. It's just the stores around here, unless you go in at Midnight, are freaking madhouses.

Car as it is right now. Sanded with 60, 150, & 220 grit on a random orbit sander
wiped down, and tack clothed clean.

Almost ready to spray some primer, just need a $1.50 air hose fitting.

Gun, paint & whatnot. Gun is a Harbor freight gun usually sells for $60 but I caught it on sale for $40, lucky me. I am going to do 2 coats of primer, 2 coats of the aluminum paint, & 2 coats of the safety red. I hoping to perfect a "poor mans" candy paint.
So far I think including the gun everything has cost me about $130.

Poor mans ventilation system. I have the window open in the attic of the garage so the air flows down over the car and out the door theoretically.

^^ Freakin' awesome! I love the poor man's down-draft booth!

I think you are gonna regret stopping at 220 grit if your going to apply metallic paint.

I am going to wet sand the primer before I apply the metallic so hopefully that helps.

That's an awesome ventilation system, very creative

How big is your air compressor? I just bought a Briggs and Stratton 10 gallon 2.5 hp compressor for $80 at Home Depot. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I just don't know if it's powerful enough to run a sander.

I've been looking into this Rustoleum paint method for a long time now. I'm hoping to do it in the near future now that I have a compressor and spraying should be much easier and less time consuming than rolling. It looks like you're on the right track. I can't wait to see the results!

Its 26 gallon tank and it is 4.9cfm @90psi. Its probably on the small side for the paintgun I'm using but it is what I have so I am making it work.

You could probably use yours to paint with but you would need to paint each panel separately in my opinion. I don't think it would work very well with a sander.

Mine was tripping the breaker when it would first kick on so I had to move it to the laundry room because the washer is plugged in to a 20amp circuit and the garage is 15 amp.

Sprayed 2 coats of primer. Still need to fine tune the gun, at least I am learning on the primer and not the paint.
I am going to spray at least one more coat of primer then later on wet sand with 800 grit and get ready for the aluminum

After: (not too bad looking for fiberglass, resin, and bondo)

Are you mixing the paint with mineral spirits or acetone? If you're using mineral spirits, use the odorless kind from what I read. Also, how did you mix the primer and how are you mixing the paint 1:1 paint/mineral spirits? Just trying to get a feel for when I do this soon.

I am using the odorless mineral spirits, I mixed the primer at 80% paint 20% mineral spirits. I will try the paint at the same mixture but I have a feeling I will be adding a little bit more mineral spirits to the paint to prevent the orange peel I saw with the primer mix. I will probably have to bump it up to 25-30% mineral spirits. I will just have to wait and see how the paint flows on some cardboard before I spray the car.
