Thanks Charlie. I've really been enjoying the added HP not to mention the additional torque. There's one long steady hill with a 60mph speed limit that I drive quite often that I would usually have to downshift into fourth to get up with only me in the car. With the new engine I can make it up in fifth with three adults in the car with ease.

To be honest , I was a little concerned about the clutch because I was put in the disc from the old car. However, the Spec Stage 2 pressure plate and newly surfaced stock weight flywheel is holding up very well. A couple of times I've had a bit of a shudder downshifting but not worried about that. Overall I'm really happy with the project. I've ordered the proper VDO oil pressure sender that will operate the gauge I've installed and still trigger the oil pressure light.

The A/C will get properly recharged shortly and there are a few other little things to sort out.

Looking forward to Westiva next month and our road trip to Montana and Wyoming in August.

    • Since I've got this car on the road the two questions I've heard most are "what kind of car is that?" and "did you just paint that?" Heard a new one today... "Do you want to sell your car?"

          • May have some new wheels and tires for the project.

13×6 +38 EXIM wheels with 175/50-13 Sumitomo HTR200 tires. Have one of them and should have the other three towards the end of the month.

They're a similar style to my current ones but white and an inch wider.

I'll clean them up properly when I have them all and see what needs to be done. I may end up painted the whole wheel white which should look good on the aqua car.

                • Very cool! Those tires are worth more than the wheels if they are in good shape. Finding quality 175/50-13 tires has become a chore.

                      • White in a basket weave is going to be a really really daunting task to keep clean. All those little openings to scrub out. I'm shivering in fear just thinking about it. Lol

                        • Got the tach working!!! It turned out to be that the metal connector inside the plug had corroded through. Replaced that and, voila, the tach now works! Next up... the oil pressure gauge. I have the sender for the VDO 80psi gauge along with the adapter that will allow me to put the sender in the stock location.

I'm having a complete new exhaust put on tomorrow so will have a bung installed for the wideband O2 sensor that's waiting to find a home in my car. The muffler I initially installed, a Thrush welded one (no packing whatsoever) turned out to be to loud and "drony" so it will be replaced with something a little quieter while still allowing some decent flow.

I'm really enjoying the added horsepower and torque . I am a little disappointed in the fuel consumption though, averaging about 30 mile per imperial gallon (25 miles per US gallon).

                          • A couple of little updates:

                            - adjusted the timing and let's just say that the smiles are bigger, much bigger

                            - my daughter borrowed the car this weekend and discovered that the hose to the boost gauge and w/m injection controller had a weak spot that split and was causing issues. Fixed that and made a couple of other adjustments and things are much better.

                            - replaced the stock B6T upper timing cover with one off an Escort BP. Difference being that the BP one doesn't have the opening for the center mount. Seeing that I didn't use the B6T mount that left a gaping hole for water and other debris to get in and cause problems

                            B6T cover

                            BP cover

Still haven't got around to hooking up the oil pressure gauge or the wide band. I'll try and get the A/C system working first.

I should add that fuel consumption has improved considerably. 43 miles per imperial gallon (about 37 mpUSg) on my daughter's trip this weekend.

                            • That's a huge improvement! Glad to see your getting it dialed in.

                              • Close to installing my home made oil catch can. It's made from ABS plumbing pipe, there's a baffle plate inside running almost to the bottom, and brass fittings. The fitting pointing straight down will drain directly to the oil pan, the one on the top will vent to atmosphere, the two on the side will hook up to the outlet on the block and the stock PCV outlet on the valve cover.

Almost have the bracket made. Will post more pictures when it's all hooked up.
