Yeah I think 7K is safe for acceleration purposes. Probably wouldn't want to keep it there for any time. Not planning on entering it in any 24-hour races. Matt sez the weakest link in the bottom end is the rod bolts, but also that ARP could probably hook us up with better ones if we felt the need.

@rmoltis: Good thoughts, but Festy motors in general seem to be overengineered, so I feel comfortable with a few more revs. The fuel cutoff limit and red zone on the tach reflect the capabilities of a stock motor, which signs off at about 5500 RPM. This motor seems to be still building power at 6200 or so when the fuel cuts off.

I would like to see B6D rod bolts compared to Festy ones. The D has the higher rev limit too.

BTW we are shooting for the #2 slot for Top 10 Fastest NA Festivas. Can't touch the KLZE, but the fastest BP is 15.285, which should be doable, or pretty close to it.

Putting up some dyno numbers from Greg's thread on building my B6rt, just for use as a comparison. Neither of these cars was optimized by any means. The B6 coulda used a larger exhaust, for example, and Casper needed tuning. The dyno was a Dynojet.

Will fill in Matthew's numbers when I go down to FL. I think we will just put the BP parts on, lower FP a bit, and dyno/race it that way. If our fuel delivery is not too rich/lean, power should be comparable at 6K to the B3 parts (i.e. as Matt built it), but we'll have the capability of going higher for even better numbers.

              Larry (B6rt)..........111 hp/127 ft/lbs.
              Casper (NA BP).....108 hp/117 ft.lbs.
              Matthew (NA B3)...?

I would run it as is first before swapping BP stuff in. Definitely need a comparison there.

                  Agreed.
It should be run as is before settings are altered
so you have a baseline comparison as to whether or not its doing better or worse.

Why not make it a 2 day thing.
1st day do passes with it as-is.
2nd day modified with extras like you planned.

Because that's a lot of money to spend for two tests ($75 each) and two different entry fees at the track; plus the track isn't always open on consecutive days, and I'm only gonna be there for three days. But if people feel that strongly about it, then perhaps I should leave it as-is and consider BP upgrading for another time. I do agree it would be nice to see just what Matt hath wrought, but figured up to 6K with good plug readings it would be basically the same anyway.

                    • Most shops will do more than one dyno pull for a certain price. Doing two separate days is pointless since it takes minutes to switch that stuff around.

                      • ECU and VAF, yes, injectors, not so much. though if another rail was prepped and the upper intake could be serviced in short order, then it might be worth a shot. i'd call up the dyno shop and let them know what you have in mind, they might be curious enough to allow some leeway (sp). figure with Greg there to give a hand, swapping those pieces would take less than 30 min.

That's what I was thinking. Once the stock Matt-build dyno test is run, I'm free to mod it for another run and for the 1/4. We'll talk to them about getting to change out the parts while on the dyno. I think we could change it all out in 10 minutes.

                            • What I was saying was he should do some quarter mile runs as-is.
To get a baseline of what's possible

Then do his parts swaps and dynos and try again at the 1/4 mile for a comparison.

                              But like dude said.

                              • OK, gonna dyno it and run it "Matt-stock". May not even bother with the BP stuff, there's no hurry. I know people want to know what it'll do as-is, so really I can't skip that step.

I'll just get the Redneck Stig to baby it in the 60 so the tranny holds up, then get what he can for the rest of the run. We can extrapolate what it would have gotten with a better 60, based on Gr--I mean the mystery driver's--experience.
