  • Gomez's ULTIMATE build thread Lots of pics

OK Guys. I have finally decided to do a build thread. I have built a few Festivas over the last 7 yrs but this time I am doing a thread because I have never done one. This is pretty much my spare no expense build (within reason of course). At this point the budget is lower than my wife's car stated below. But you never know how that will turn out.

I have always wanted to build my own car pretty much from the ground up. In a roundabout way I did that with my Black and Silver car back in 2009(?). But that was a stock rebuild with only a few slight mods to the car. Although it was a VERY nice car it wasn't special. This time I am gonna do it right. I plan on having a new car to drive when it is done. It will be mine and there will be none like it for sure. My wife has a 2013 Kia Rio and by the time it is paid off we will have over 20 G's into it. It will be no different than any other Kia Rio in the entire world save a few dings here scratches there and what not. But my Festiva WILL be different than any other built. I an not doing anything much different than any one of you guys have done to yours, though mine will have a little bit of input from EVERY one of your builds. Tips and tricks from the "Fastest Festiva in the World", and the "Best Handling Festiva in the World" (fastest depending on how you rate fast), and of course some quite exceptional mods from some very unique Festivas from "Around the World". PLEASE don't take me as being cocky or anything. I am just stating my plans and that is all. Everyone has goals. I hope mine will be met and I am going to try my darndest (is that a word?).

My plan is to build up a stockpile of most of the parts I will be using. When that is getting near completion I will actually start building the car itself. I will have plenty of questions and hope to get answers from anyone that thinks they have a good one. Some may be answered already in other threads but I figure I can ask here and get specific answers to what I am doing.

I know this is a forum and everyone is free to say what they want but I only ask 1 question of everyone. Can you please keep all comments on a positive note? I know we all have opinions and I like to hear them But only if they are conducive to me going in a positive direction. I mean stuff like "you paid too much for that" or "why not just put a BP in it" and that kind of stuff. You all know what I mean.

    Any way here it goes.

I have a 93 GL. It is all stock. I'm currently planning a b6t with a no holds barred engine build. Custom exhaust from the head back to the rear turbo. Going for overkill HP because I can and I wanna see what a fully built b6 can do. Wire tuck. Full suspension upgrades. Custom interior for the most part (front to back). The exterior will be nice clean and simple maintaining "sleeper qualities". Larger and wider wheels and tires of course. Like I said earlier it won't necessarily be nicer in any one aspect than anyone's Festiva in particular, it'll just be in contention with respect to every aspect of the car I hope. Going for show quality and racing ability. Drag racing a couple times just for the heck of it, some road course of course, probably just Auto-X though, and the weekend shows for relaxation. It won't be a dd but it WILL get driven. I am building to have fun on the nicer Ohio days and for the nice summer months. My 91 will be my DD.

Some of the stuff I have now. I will post more as I get 'em. Pics of the car will come at a later date. I promise.

b6t from 91 XR2. gonna need some work, but it'll get it.

G-Series tranny form same XR2 and spares from Charlie1717 and jake88maro

hatch latch for rear cargo light

dash clock. currently orange but gonna try the suggested swap of the lens to try and make it more of a Cobalt blue to match the gauges I'm using. Plus I'm gonna try changing the lettering to white.

Gomez, have you ever seen twin carbs? Will you be attending Ohiostiva 2014 this year?

If you like your ECA, then you can keep your ECA!

            ECA = Electronic Control Assembly
I just call it a computer. Most cars today can't function without one. I threw mine out to prove to my boys that cars can still run great without them. Just wait for a Carrington Event and see what happens.

Derp!!! My bad. I always called it ECU/ECM. Thought it was something like that. Any way I wonder if dual carb'ed was better then why don't more people go that way? Would like to hear more though.

                Here ya go!
I've got more than double the distance to get there!

Good luck with your search for a blue LED dash clock.
I already sold my old one.
I opted for no colored lettering and an orange LED.

Carbed isn't better. It just frees up a lot of room under the dash for cruise control and security/remote lock system.

This is what Matt (ZOOM ZOOM) and I picked up today. '92 MR2 The seat covers from my car will be cannibalized and put onto these beauts. My cousin owns an upholstery shop way down in West Virginia. Gonna take a small road trip as soon as I get 'em mounted. I will also redo the foams just because I want them to be pretty firm.

The bracketry looks like it'll be pretty easy to mount up, though I would like to raise the seats up a little from stock so I may have to do a little fab work. Was also wanting to mount them a little further back than stock. I have never seen anyone drive with the seat all the way forward. Being 6' tall I would like to sit back a little more "gangster" as Matt calls it. Welp!!!! Guess that's why I bought my welder this past summer. LOL

I was eyeballing some Volkswagen black leather sets that looked similar in size to the ones you got. I bet those would fit too. Any seat from a narrow car would have a chance. I see those have a front bail bar, like my Tibs. No under tray, unless you swap bottoms.

I was originally thinking under seat tray But since I keep clutter out of my cars completely I usually have the whole glove box to put stuff in. Besides these babies have map pockets built into the backs.
