  • I disconnect the electric side of my idle valve and just use the coolant side and my idle bypass screw on my throttle body. That idle valve may be like the ones on the JDM b6t manifolds. If it is, it's the same as the early usdm 323 b6 (like 85 or 86 iirc)
It also just occurred to me that your ignition timing may be at fault for the mixture being off. You can't trust the marks on the pulley to set timing. I know I've seen whacky fuel curves with the ignition timing being off.

    • I think the coolant side is bad I've got the electric disconnected. The coolant ports looked pretty rusty when I put it in. It could also be my coolant lines going to it. There's not much room back there so there's some pretty tight bends in the lines. I'm pretty sure my timing is right. I took my upper cover off and stuck my camera down the lower cover, then lined up the timing mark on the crank gear. The timing mark on the pulley was only a few degrees off but I marked the correct position and set ignition timing off that.

      • Well, low 14:1 at high rpm on that engine is probably fine. TQ peak is probably around 5500-5800rpm and you just want around 13.8:1 at TQ peak. A touch richer that stoich is fine in over rev on most street applications.
What do you mean when you say the throttle is jumpy?

        • Part throttle is pretty much a light switch at high rpm. I'll try to ease into it mid corner but if you aren't on it hard it'll start jerking. Think I may have found part of both my problems though.

I just took it off so well see if that fixes things. Pics of all my oil leaks. It's back in the car now I was just to lazy to take pics of it all cleaned up lol.

Idle valve. Don't think I've seen one on anything sold here but I haven't paid that much attention to them before.

And finally. How far off the timing mark on my pulley is.

              • Looks like you caught it in time (bad pun).

Did Nerd get anywhere with the ATI damper for the BP?

                • Deer on a bike is no fun! I clipped one once but didn't go down. I know a few others locally who haven't been so lucky.

As far as the IAC goes, I deleted mine on my BP. Machined a little blockoff plate. Started and idled fine even at 1*f over the winter.

                  • I don't think it's going bad it's been that far off ever since I bought the car. I'm not going to bother with replacing it unless it moves more or starts wobbling. Has Nerd even been on recently? I don't think I've seen him post anything in a while.

First one I just clipped it's head with my shoulder. Didn't come off or anything. Still rode up and passed my ASE tests after I stopped and calmed down lol. Sprained my shoulder pretty bad that time. This time it just ran right into my leg. Saw it coming from pretty far off so I had slowed down a lot. Probably why it wasn't that bad this time.

The bp iac is different than the 6t/6d idle valves I think. Not really sure if I could delete it.

                    • Got it all back together on Friday. No more burning oil smell.

Finally got around to attempting a gauge pod. The oil pressure gauge has just been sliding across the dash for the last year or so lol. Also installed the coolant temp gauge. Its not finished yet need to make a top for it but its better than what I had. You can see that my new windshield is already dirty too lol.

                      • Looking Good! I don't think a loose dash pot would cause any mid throttle high rpm power surges. Have you checked the internals in your distributor? Maybe the timing is doing funny stuff. Also, is it possible that your VICS is causing the weird power surges?

                        • The dash pot was bent so I was more worried about it holding the throttle open slightly so it'd idle high. The high rpm throttle issues seem to be related to idle speed. When you let off the throttle it decelerates like normal for half a second then it starts to decel even faster almost like a valve or switch is closed. It'll also do this at light throttle low speeds (30mph through town). Ill be holding steady speed/throttle then all of a sudden it'll start decelerating like I've closed the throttle. It only does this when it idles high. I'm wondering if the idle switch is adjusted wrong and the ecu is changing timing in a attempt to bring the idle speed down? When it does this at high rpms going off the throttle then back on will make the car jerk and if you aren't on the throttle hard enough it'll make your foot back off the gas so it'll start to decel again. Once it starts to decel your foot starts to press on the gas making it jerk again. It'll get stuck in a cycle like this until you floor it again. Hopefully this makes sense I don't know how else to explain it.
