I think it looks great. The sheet metal looks thicker than what I was picturing in that area. I only have a crappy flux core wire welder, and I know how annoying those are to work with.

    Looks good.

I now have the front support plates welded on. I also welded in some angle iron on the inside on the frame to the back of the plates. When welding in the plates we welded the top and sides 1st. After the top and sides the plate still had some good flex in it. The bottom weld really locked the plate to the frame. Even with the bottom weld the plate still had some light flex in it. It took much more tp move it but you still could move it. We decided to weld in some angle iron behind the plate and to the frame. We were able to butt weld the angle iron to the plate. It was also welded straight to the frame. The angle iron in the back like that 100% stiffened up the plate. Now when you try to move the plate the entire car moves. Its solid as a rock now. I used 2 x 2 x 1/4 angle iron for my bar across the front. I then welded 2 7.5" section to the bar ends to box them in. Others cut nice reliefs in the metal and such. I will just drill big relief holes to get a socket down in them.

The 1/4" plate in the front seems way to thick. I think some thinner plate would work just as well.

I will mark the bar tonight to find out where i want to drill my holes. Then bring it to work tomorrow to drill.

William helped me with the welding. Please dont pick on his welds. He welded much better then i could have with how my welder was set up. I am 100% happy with how he did it. Could you pro welders do better sure but does it matter no so please give him the credit for driving 3 hours to help a friend out and leave the weld comments to yourself.

Tomorrow ill bring my plate to work and cut it up at lunch time. I really dont want to spend 2 hours at home with my 4" grinder cutting metal plates. I can get both plates cut at work in minutes.

Tonight ill clean the garage up and get all my tools put back in their places and ready to go again. Im gonna push to have the stock harness back together this weekend. I didnt cut it up much so it should be rather easy. I just have to get a new solder gun tip.

If i get it together ill put up a nice video.
I love soldering. I write this as I sit at work soldering. I'm pro ;-)

So zero progress on Lucifer this weekend. The wife was away for the 1st time in years so we took the weekend to hang out. Ill get back on the car tomorrow tho. We went to the autocross today. It was a blast and has me in the mood to finish up my build and get it out there.

i hope to start welding on the car tomorrow. Ill try to get my 1/4 plate cut at work tomorrow if the shop guys get time. If not ill have to do it at home. Either way ill have it ready to weld tomorrow.

I stopped in at lowes to see if they had a better tool for cutting think steel then what i have now. I have been using a small 3" angle grinder. My compressor is by far big enough but the little grinder is just to small and doesnt have the power behind it. It was a cheapie unit.

So last night i picked up a new AC 4.5" angle grinder and found a new diamond tip metal blade. It was like 15$ itself. Im so glad i bought it. It cuts right throught the 1/4 steel i bought like nothing. Id say it cuts as fast or faster then a really nice blade on a good band saw.

So i laid out my plate to the picture in the Advancedynamix post from another thread. I had both plates cut out in minutes. It was easliy 20x faster then my old method. Tonight i hope to get time to get out in the garage and weld on the plates. That might have to wait till Saturday tho. Might meet up with another member to swap parts. He has some miata brake upgrades for me and i have a set of rims for him.

Just adds resistance to twisting. It also helps support the bumper cover like the factory support does. The last picture is of our LeMons car. I made that support from 1/8" wall and the front support piece actually goes all the way under the angle iron. It is 1/8" thick as well. That provides a total thickness of 1/4". The original support that I made fir Tweak was made from 1/4 thick angle.

I found some 2 x 2. Plus my neighbor gave me some nice square tube. I'll come up with something. I have the plate to and will make the base plate as the pictures show. The rest will be kinda different but the same basic concept

Get a 3x2 angle it's a bit harder to find but it's what everyone has used that I've seen. I got a 8 foot stick from my local welding shop for 20 bucks.

You loose torque multiplication with a longer gear regardless of torque peak rpm.

I guess it all depends on where the torque peaks at

I would think less. It's dropping rpm giving more top speed

Got the g series off the old motor. Got the stock flywheel and backing plate off. Got the G series backing plate cleaned and on. Got the g series flywheel cleaned and on. Tomorrow i need to find the TQ spec on the bolts and get to work. Also tomorrow im gonna get some oven cleaner and clean the trans before i open it up to do the Stig swap i mean top gear i mean 5th gear swap!
