end goal woyuld be to have 2 festivas. 1 thats a bpt with high hp able to drag race and it be fun and one i take to aces and actually use. For right now im shooting for a fun street car that can race.

Thanks to all that have helped me. I do listen to what you have to say.
As far as the vj14 goes. My setup was bad for it. The hater pipe let it over boost to much. I didnt want to change the pipe. So i changed the turbo. The turbo at 15psi was ok but just not enough for me. At 20 psi it was enough!!! But 20 psi for it was to much. So i needed to change the turbo for that reason as well. I wanted the Garret gt2554 but the wife found out and i got the twisted wedge turbo!!!
I will be changing the car up in the future as well. Maybe i can get the garret then who knows.
Once i drive the car on the track the 1st time ill understand much more. I may even kick myself in the butt. I might get to do 7 autocrosses a year. So for me some top end power is more important then just pure low end hit. If im not the fastest ok whatever. Its all about will it still be fun!
Maybe i can redo the turbo when i sell the buggy. have brit as my speed car and lucifer as my track car. IDK Im still learning here so any mod is a good mod.

Thanks Rob. Mike took the time to put good suspension under this car, but he gave up on the stock b6t before correcting some vital issues. You CAN'T run these things with an open BOV and expect good results. The open exhaust is cute while your young and want attention, but it's not good for a well tuned b6t and I haven't had good luck with chipped ECUs on the b6t because over 7k rpm with 16psi or more, they will destroy the turbo in a hurry. Mike never felt a well tuned b6t with the stock systems in place. If he had then he would understand where I'm coming from. The b6t is a very well designed package from the factory, and it's often screwed up by people throwing crappy parts and bad ideas at it. Big charge coolers, big charge tubing, open BOV, open exhaust and too much rpm really hurt the performance of these great engines. It really saddens me to see some of the things people do to "improve" an awesome package.
After driving a 300hp BPT festiva out here back to back with Tweak, I was convinced that the car didn't need that kind of TQ for any sort of street driving or road coarse work (drag racing is a different story).Last edited by Advancedynamix; 07-11-2016, 03:38 PM.

Well said Charlie . I can't seem to explain this either . I keep telling guys they don't need that much HP . Save the money and buy the suspension and the rest of the package . I'm daily driving a well tuned b3 with your suspension package .The car feels very fast . I've driven them all, from stock to 3-400 hp ,and it's no good , the chassis won't handle it and you can't put it down . I just cost myself some future builds , but maybe they will listen to both of us .Last edited by shadetree; 07-11-2016, 02:50 PM.

Driving a FWD car fast is not a simple matter of having the most HP. It requires precise TQ that is consistent and predictable. That is because, on the edge, a fast driver will sling the car into the corners at such a high rate of speed that the car will slide. The driver let's the car come around until it's pointed where they want it and then the driver uses the engines TQ to tug the car out of the slide and towards the next corner. It's a dance with the throttle. If done correctly, very little brake is needed. If a festiva is driven in this manner it will corner at incredible rates of speed. If the car doesn't have enough available TQ (due to incorrect gear selection, turbo lag, or just a weak engine) the corner speed will have to be reduced to a rate that can be managed with the throttle. If the car has too abrupt a TQ curve, it will loose front wheel grip and it will want to slide off the track. Learning how to dance a fast FWD car can be difficult for new drivers. Adding an engine that is less friendly to drive might make the learning curve close to impossible.
I am a bit obsessed with driving these things fast. I think about it almost non stop. I've never driven a car that was so rewarding on the edge and it has really captivated me. I'm glad I was able to practice enough with a stock b6t to be able to toss one of these cars sideways at over 100mph and dance it without breaking a sweat. I think you would enjoy that feeling too Mike.Last edited by Advancedynamix; 07-11-2016, 02:22 PM.

Well. That Evo setup seems like a great deal. You'll definitely be able to make more TQ than you can use.
Just for the record though, on a stock tune, with properly set up systems, the vj14 can support 180hp and 180ftlbs of tq for years and at least 70k miles, even when driven extremely hard. Anyone who has ridden with me will tell you that I drive with no mercy and am not afraid to grenade an engine. Tweak is still being driven hard by it's current owner. Together we have put 80k miles on that vj14 that I bought used from Clay (he got it from a salvage yard in town) years ago. That turbo has been across country and back twice, it's scored time attack first place trophies against corvettes and Porsche cars, and it's been daily driven very hard. To say that a vj14 can't propel a very fast and very reliable car is incorrect. Putting down more than 180ft.lbs of TQ in these cars is not easy on street tires, or even cold race tires. The fact is that a fast car is well balanced with it's HP and TQ. Too much will slow the car down. A stock b6t/g15mr is an extremely good match for a festiva chassis. The combo feels slow because it's such a well balanced combination. It takes awhile to realize how ridiculously fast the car actually is. I just worry about bit that you'll build something that is hard to drive, and mistake that as being fast (as soon many tuners do) and never get to appreciate the benefits you could have had in a well balanced system.
The g series is a good plan. You'll want the engine weight further forward if your actually going to use any of that extra power from your new setup. To fit the g series you'll need to move the engine forward about 2 inches. That will help the car out a lot on an autocross course.Last edited by Advancedynamix; 07-11-2016, 01:58 PM.

Carlos is cutting me a good deal. I think mostly to get me to leave him alone but either way he is helping out. I already have a bp dissy on the car. Yes i will be going COP style. Its not to bad as i have plenty of stuff to sell from the car now.

With my Britstiva car i am unsure how i want to build it. I wanted to finish Lucifer the exact way i want it before i go building another car. I wanted to know how much power can i push out of the 1.6 motor. Is that power gonna be enough for me? How does it handle? Do i like it? Do i want just raw power? Plus- i want to fully pull that car apart. top to bottom inside and out. I want to fully redo it all. Which is going to take a bunch of time. Im not ready for all that just yet.
Lucifer- i wanted to make it the way i wanted from the start! I wanted a strong pulling car that is still fun to drive. Im not making it 100% only for autocross but i want to keep it fun on the autocross track. I wanted to use this as my daily drive. To do that i wanted to get rid of the vj14 as i wanted more power then what it can handle and be reliable to get me to work without blowing up on me. I tend to drive boost happy!!! Im still going to get a custom exhaust manifold and redo the interior. Lucifer is almost done.
Once Lucifer is done i will shift focus to my offroad buggy. I want to fix it and let it go. Once its gone i will have plenty of cash to build Britstiva the way i want without worry.

Ouch..hate to back pedal myself. Another 800 bones for the ecu and you will need a Miata CAS to run the evo unit with the Toyota cop's...he should be able get one for you though.

Exact reason why I suggested this type of work be done to a project car while you fix the little things that made this car run crappy and enjoy it. You'd be able to enjoy these events, while also enjoy building your own car.

Yup two main mistakes you've made here. Going with that ecu that nobody else here runs (and I've never even heard of), and rushing your build. Whole times you're like "gotta get this done by tomorrow!"
Can't do it like that mang. Slow down, take your time, and get it right. It'll be much more enjoyable then. Cause now you're spending way more time and money.

I'm giving up on my microtech ecu! I had it going at one point in time. Then my igniter went out. Since then I have not had it going again. I got spark one time but it didn't last. I have an old msd box I tried to hook up but I guess it's no good either. I never did get it to soak even once.
I'm having Carlos from Facebook make me a plug and play Evo system with cop setup. I'm done with this wiring mess.
Guess I now have time to swap in my g series.
What a mess!!!

I might have the car running tonight. I know my msd box is good. I know the ecu will control fuel. I now have a new fresh coil. I should be able to get it to run tonight. If so that means i might just get it all back together in time for the race this Sunday. It would be so nice to finally race this dang car! I have been working very hard to get to race ready status. Its about time it happens.
