  • From my personal experience, putting hard to get aftermarket body kits on cars makes it harder to enjoy the drive, because your always worried about damaging the body work. On some cars this isn't a big deal because the car itself may be ultra rare and valuable, or it may not be that fun to drive hard anyway. The Festiva is the opposite of both those criteria though. It's value is it's ability to be driven like a go kart on crack.

    • If you have a carbed model and are going to swap in a B6D. Could you document the wiring and swap info in detail for those of us looking to do the same.... please please pretty please!!!! :^)

        I'm going with a carb'd b6d so there wont be much of a wiring change. I will be adding a relay and power for an inline fuel pump but that's about it.

        • Sounds good! Are you converting a B6D to carb? Or where there some factory B6D's that came carborated from the factory?

          • I am converting it myself using a miata manifold.

            I finally got a tracking number from Junspeed after pushing the issue with paypal. We will see what the parts look like when they arrive. Other than that I've just been winter daily-ing it. I'm in the works of sorting out the carb stuff and it's almost time for me to start buying all of the misc parts for the engine. I need the heater tube that comes from the passenger side front of the engine to the firewall for the heater, timing covers, a new alternator, spare dizzy, clutch and more. Hopefully I'll have the motor installed by spring.

            • I went ahead and got some parts on order today. Phenolic spacers for the carbs, exedy clutch kit, the rear metal timing cover for the b6d, miata 1.8 crank pulley, alternator and water pump pulley for the ribbed conversion, transmission mount, front mount and the dual dcoe linkage kit. Now all thats left is the plastic timing cover, external/inline fuel pump, timing belt/water pump kit, valve cover gasket, manifold block for vacuum, a spare festiva harness, spare festiva distributor, the coolant tube from the front to the heater core, exhaust studs and a wideband 02 sensor.

              Somewhere in all of this I need to decide if I want to paint the block but I know for sure I will be powdercoating the valve cover. I also want to strip all of the grease and grime out of the engine bay. I guess I should paint that while I'm in there too.

                The Festiva heater bypass tube works with a little modification. You'll need to use the Festiva water pump inlet as well.

                  The escort gt/ protege LX timing cover is nicer than the Capri b6d one and it bolts right up to the b6d tin. It doesn't have the hole for the motor mount like the Capri. You won't need that hole with the mount your using.

                      Quite a few people are running b3 distributors on their b6d engines.
                      I'll have to look at a picture to see what you mean by shave a little off the retaining cap. I do need to start planning the dizzy work soon. As well as the vacuum manifold for brake booster, distributor advance and whatever else I may need.

                      • Shave the bottom of the cap on the 2 surfaces that touch the head. Best way I can think of explaining it at 6am lol.

                            I got my spacers and linkage for the carbs today. Everything looks pretty good but I feel like I should have gone with a bottom mount linkage so the carbs weren't covered as much.

                            • Since I wasn't too happy with the top mount, I decided to make up a bottom mount for the linkage. Now all I have to do is make sure it'll clear the alternator. Will post pics soon.

                              • So with the swap coming up I decided it was time for a better daily. I wanted something I could tow the festiva with and it had to have a back seat for my son. Here's what I ended up with.



                                It's been a pretty great truck so far but boy do I miss the festivas fuel economy. I was spending $13 a week for my weekly work commute but now its up to over $25. It's a sacrifice that needs to be made though. The b3 just doesn't make enough heat to be comfortable in the winter.

                                I also grabbed myself a little bit of interior goodness to make up for the hole left in my heart with the Junspeed nonsense.
