  • There are a few things that will cause that (assuming tires are in good condition and not over inflated). First is poor suspension setup and chassis alignment settings. Second is not setting up properly for the corner, third is not going fast enough into the corner.

The brake input should be smooth on and off. If your slamming the brakes and lifting quickly, the front will be unsettled and it won't grab. Smooth steering wheel input is important too. This all comes with practice and you can't expect to be good at it on your first try. You won't know how fast it'll turn in until you've spun it around in circles.

    • I had very similar experience this weekend mike. I've succesfully got the rear to begin rotating around a traffic circle and then balanced it out with some throttle for exit. This was before the negative camber.

Have you added the negative camber and tried again yet?

        • Negative camber moves the threshold to a higher speed. I'm now running almost -5 degrees in the rear of our LeMons car (which used to spin easily with throttle lift around corners). It's taken about 8 hours of track time for me to start getting used to the speeds that are required to drift the car with this much negative camber. It's down right scary fast. To put things in perspective, my lap times are now almost 2 seconds a lap faster in our LeMons car than they are in my Cayman. The LeMons car is on 205 50 15 federal 595rr tires and the Cayman is on 275/245mm Notto NT01 tires, and has $15k worth of well set up suspension under it. I hit higher top speeds in the Cayman (122mph straightaway speed as opposed to 103mph in Festiva) but the Festiva has unbelievable cornering grip, and it's easier to drive on the limit than the Porsche.

          • I see. I will try to dial in the front and rear to the proper settings. If i cant get her to act the way i need i will swap the rear to the aspire beam with sway bar removed and add my camber plates to that. I should be around -5 then. That will be another step away tho. I want to make small changes now that im up and moving. #1 is to set it and test it.

                  • I think i will be swapping over to aspire auto brakes and my miata booster this weekend. Gonna pull my aspire beam and sand and paint it. I will cut the sway bar out. Gonna rebuild the brakes all new fron and back. Gotta make her top notch for racing.

What is the best aspire auto brakes out there?

                      • I got my aspire out of the backyard last night. Man overkill would make one nasty offroad toy! I pulled the car to the front with overkill. Ill take a picture of the grass tonight but it looks like a couple snakes had a fight!

This weekend i will have the aspire fully apart. Gotta remove the interior and tires so scrap yard will take it. Gonna start rebuilding the knuckles and beam. Gotta throw some white on emm. Will take a few weeks tho. I will get the rear done this weekend. The front i will do after i close on my house.

                          • The rear beam is not bent after all. My rear bearing is gone tho. I think the inner race has friction welded itself onto the stub shaft. I will try to press it out once i have it off the car. I have my aspire beam all painted up and ready to go back in soon. I will add my camber plates to it and then install with all new everything. New brake shoes, drums, hardware, wheel cylinder and hard lines up to the soft lines. Im gonna paint the new drums red just to give it some color.

                            • No pregress has been made on overkill this week since the picture. I think i am going to go ahead and cut the sway bar out. I have been going back and forth on the topic. Leave it and learn the car then cut it out and relearn. I think i will just cut it now and be done with it. I dont want to have to mess with it later on. I want to install and know that its done.
