Try spraying the inside of the lock cyclinder with lithium grease. That really helped free mine up.

Also, you may want to pull the door panel and spray the latch mechanism and any other moving parts associated with the lock and latch.

I didn't read this whole thread. Forgive me if I am redundant here. On all 88-89 festivas you have to hold up the handle to prevent unlocking. On all 90-93 festivas you dont.

Yeah, when I had my '89 I remember it locked just fine, didn't have to hold it down.

You can get a permantly "locked" one fixed. Remove inner door panel and remove that irksome rod that pushes the button up! It is tanged with the keylock rod.

Doors weren't changed, but its possible that the rod was removed, or maybe mid to late '89's had the '90 none pop up type?

previous owner has done this already. my problem is i still cant unlock my door if it gets locked on purpose or when it just wiggles into the locked position. i want to fix the locking mech.

Sounds like locksmith time. Read on here there is a number on the passenger side lock for the key code. The LS can make a key from that code. Are the locks bad or just need key?
