Also wanted to add that SEPHIAS have that G series transmission but are an escort sized car. You can probably get that trans and use the smaller rio axles and make that work as well.

It's a MazdaFordnKia thing, and you will understand!

I went to that site and it lists the 2001 Rio as having a 4.17:1 gear.

There's another site that lists the same 4.17:1 gear

It looks like Kia decided that they needed to lower the highway RPM on the Rio, because in 2002 the car got a 3.90:1 final drive.

In 2003 they went back to the 4.17, but the transmission got a higher 4th and 5th gear, almost exactly like the '90 to '94 323 and Protege (0.91:1 and 0.73:1).

This combo is almost exactly like the 323 F-series transmission. Also, this means that 2001-02 Rio 5 speeds can have a 5th gear swap.

When they went to Hyundai parts (which we can't use) in 2006, the transmissions went the other way and the gearing was increased, with even more gear than the 2001 Rio.

          I'm shopping for a 2002 trans.

            I found an 02 Rio Transmission :O

While I was in there, I was looking at the front hubs, they look pretty close, but I haven't tried them, the hole for ABS is the only thing noticably different, as far as it actually bolting up.. we'll have to wait until someone tries it I suppose.

As for different year Rio gearing, this may help:

Early Rios had the 1.5 engine with 96 hp, while the 2003 and later model years got the 1.6 engine with 105 hp.

That may be why the final drives were changed from 4:17 to 3:90; to make use of the larger engine's greater torque and hp.

              Just a guess.

I went to the JY yesterday and snapped a few pics, I believe the INT wiper switch will swap, i'm willing to try it and maybe sell it if I get it to work since I've got the 626 switch.

Here's a link to the photobucket acct with random pics.. I WILL be buying the transmission and seeing what I can do about mating it to a BP this week, the question is, will an Mfactory differential for a G series transmission bolt in?

I may even end up attempting to swap THAT cluster into my aspire, I know it won't work in a festy, but I need a RPM tach and that's perfect..

pics here of the transmission/steering knuckle/cluster/rear suspension

this is an EARLY 02, the struts and springs are on my Aspire right now..........

The clusters look the same .
New build on the way .

2006 shows a 4.05 ratio, 2001 has 4.17, are there any ring and pinion
ratios with a higher number like 4.56 ??

how do you set camber on fest w. rio struts and uncut springs

do you cut slotys in the strut towers or slots in the upper strut mounting bolt hole were the knuckle mounts.

I slot the upper hole of the strut at the knuckle mount,
its easier for me that way, but I used VW golf struts
for that well known German quality...

How much do you need to slot the hole(s)? Did you only slot one? Do you somehow fill the hole to prevent bolt plain in the hole? youDid you measure your camber properly?...

Want some negative camber on my shortened aspire springs...

Guys, what about kia rio cross member? Would it by any change mount a G trans to our innocent Festiva bodies without fabrication? I know I am daydreaming

I doubt the crossmember will fit, but I'm wondering about the manual steering rack.

Looks like it will ,but column shaft size is way smaller . I already tried this ... no go .
And the crossmember won't fit but the g series mounts on a Rio are way simple to adapt to the festiva xmember .
New build on the way .
