I just want to point out that I've done engine rebuilds without pulling engine from car, and in my (dirt) driveway.

If you've ever been to a foundry or machine shop, you'd think my dirt driveway the perfect venue for an engine build.

That said, good luck to you. I hope that while fixing this issue, another issue similar in nature does not arise.

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I must say, compared to nothing, your dirt driveway sounds pretty good to me.

There is a lesson for me somewhere in all this. Maybe something like: There will always be someone who has it better than you. If you allow that fact to make you unhappy, you'll be unhappy -- always.

Its not that anyone is better than you, they're just more experienced. They got more experienced by working on cars. We aren't trying to be mean. We just rather you try a few ideas instead of spending 2 days trying to think of ways things could go wrong.

Will we have to look in this post to find out if you've succeeded? Or will that be in another post?

If you would have tried and failed when you first posted this you could have pulled the head and been driving the car already!

just to be on the safe side...it looks to me like you still have a spark plug washer stuck in the hole. Maybe grab a magnet and see if you can pull it out of there?

Sure does look like a spark plug washer! But are those steel or aluminum?

Better not let it fall into the hole, John! :p

I had a funny siutuation once, I changed the spark plugs and a plug washer got stuck on the head and I didn't notice so the festy had two washers on one plug.
It ran like (expletive deleted) till I figured that one out.
