Sam, have you checked the ignition timing? Are you going to make it up to Grand Forks in April?

Nonamekid, I will be in GF in April, but i wont have the car. I am sure the timing is off, but the marks are gone as the pulley had the a/c drive cut off. so there are no timing marks... Plus no garage or timing light.

any help on back yard timing techniques?

Do you have access to a vacuum guage?

You can pull a spark plug at one end of the engine and turn the engine by
hand until the piston inside the plug hole is exactly at the top. You can use
a straw sized stick or anything you find appropriate to poke in the hole and
amplify the movement of the piston to exact TDC. This will involve marking
last felt movement on your lower pulley in both directions, then permanently
scribe a high visibility line with a sharpy across the lower cover and your pulley
for a brand new TDC. Your timing mark will be about 3/4 inch to the right
on your pulley. Find a AZ or Oreilly's that loans tools to do this. They will also
sell you a Denso brand o2 and loan you the tool to put it in. If you could at least
get that done it should help until you get close to one of us diagnose and tuner
                          guys.

If your top cover is off you can use the 12 o'clock cam mark to set your timing. Turn engine forward by crank bolt until cam mark is about 11 o'clock. Remove # 1 spark plug wire, insert small screwdriver in connector and place on engine where spark can jump gap. Turn key to ON. Slowly turn motor forward. As mark passes pointer on head spark should jump. Turn dist to adjust. Done it this way on other cars but not Festy. Since carbed Festies are timed to 0 BTDC, cam mark should be same unless milled head.
