    • In California you CAN swap the v6 if you take every single piece off the v6 donor car, and have it inspected and documented. We're talking evap, all vacuum lines, CORRECT ECU full harness etc. A proper clean install in other words, one we would respect anyway. The car also has to pass as the v6 car, which is newer than a festiva. If its a JDM engine you have to go locate the usdm parts like egr and the usdm intake manifold. Lots of hoops to jump thru but on club protege I'm following a hero up in northen cali who's either done 2 of them, or made one sold it and is helping another guy. Its been a while since i went poking on their site.

Isn't that the point  seriously though, it shouldn't be too terrible but if traction is too much of an issue than i'll look into some stickier tires

Chris, if you decide to go with the stock BP bellhousing for some reason I have just sourced a place to get a diagram of the adapter plate needed to bolt a KLZE to miata bellhouse which is the same as the G trans. Let me know and I will pass you the info.

Very awsome indeed. You will have one nasty autoX'er if you put a LSD in there too.

Oh and for FM4 we will have to car pool down together when the time comes, I am planning far in advance for it as well. The only thing possible problem is the wife and I are starting college again and that may make our weekend shorter than planned.
No need for the BP bell housing since i swapped the diffs to make the probe tranny work, plus i don't think i could spare the room of the thickness of an adapter plate but thanks anyway

I like the idea of keeping the stock fuel tank plus it shouldn't be too bad for fill ups and the V6 badges are definately something i will get once its complete, thanks for the link

Your right on that one :evil4: i have a heavy right foot

And the joys of living in Ontario, when it comes to emissions, if a car has any engine that was never available from factory it gets put in a "hot rod" class and that limits are raised, so B6, B6T, BP, KL-ZE, they just put it in a hot rod class and run the test

          • Your mock up motor has the obd2 exhaust manifolds. Sourcing a set of obd1 manifolds would save you a lot of room. They don't have that big flex pipe in them. And you might look into the v6 mx3 intake manifold. The neck curves towards the front of the car and makes intakes in tight spots much easier. The mx3 flywheel is also 5lbs lighter.

                  • Well i did a little bit today, i cut the rad support off so i can make some clearance to get everything sitting straight, i need to get some steel from work now to re-attach the rad support and to start making the front tranny mount

This is where it needed clearance

I didn't cut too much out yet until the front trans mount is made and i can determine how much needs to be cut out

                    • sweet.... couldnt you just make the front mount a bit taller and push the motor back a bit? or make the rear one smaller?

                      • The rear mount has the tranny about 1/4 inch away from the steering rack and there's not much room to tilt the engine back, but once i straightened out the engine it made a bit more room at the back

                        • Chris, I was talking with Jim (FB71) about this build and he wanted me to tell you to wrap both the rear exhaust manifold and the steering rack in heat tape. This is so you don't melt the plastic bushings in the rack itself from all the heat.

                          • I was thinking the same thing  i'll probably get a set of headers to help with the clearance and to help keep the heat away from the rack

Thats actually what i was thinking too, since theres no room in the engine bay for a turbo  and with the history of the car it'd be nice to keep it turbo'd
