Oh that's good I really don't understand why people would restrict exhaust vs. external wastegate

Burns stainless said it's totally legit to run a bigger exhaust diameter and then neck it down for a muffler in the back of the car. But you don't want to neck it down and then run bigger pipe to the back.

      • For now I'm keeping the stock manifold. Later on I will be going to a custom ram horn style manifold with external waste gate. So for now I need to make my setup work. The exhaust is just to close to my water pump outlet right now. So I wanted to go to 2.5" pipe to make it easier to get around the hose and so I can add in an off the shelf glass pack

        • I got another elbow welded up today. Im getting a bit better. I took the grinder to both. I think they are usable. I wanted to do a quick test fit to see how far away from the water pipe and my flange is wrong! I ordered a new correct flange (it was my fault this time) and have the old one ready to go back. Will shift focus to finishing up the front brace now.

            • I have my core support bar in place. I have the 4 bolts to the frame section done. I still have to drill the 4 holes for the sway bar mounts. I hope to get that done tonight. They sway bar bolts look like they are going to be a pain. I might have to grind the heads down to get enough room to clear the other bolts. Ill get them in there one way or another. I have a few crappy pictures to post up in a bit. So far its looking good tho.

              • I had the drill smoking! I had to cut slow in order to not burn the hole saw. The drill didnt like going that slow. Its all good tho. I let it cool down and its just like new now.

Code support is in place! Almost time to start on the tranny!

I went with 7/16 14 x 1.5" bolts. They were perfect. The bolts on the outside of the frame are a tad long but the bolts on the inside are perfect. I have angle iron welded on the inside from the frame to the 1/4" plate. The bolts go through the angle iron on the inside, the cars normal sheet metal, the 1/4 plate, and the core support bar.

                • My core support is 100% finished. I am moving onto the clutch and transmission tonight. I need to polish up the flywheel a bit tho. It is a bit glazed up. I will clean it with a nice soft block as even and smooth as i can. I think that will do the trick.

It would be great if i can get the trans mounted tonight but i think thats a bit much.

Core support is in and looking good. I had to drill the holes for the sway bar mount and weld in bolts with the heads cut off them. My outer sway bar mount holes were very close to the bolts that went to the frame. I think i have them in there nice and solid now tho. I will leave the front bumper off for a week or so to keep an eye on the bolts. I dont want to go ripping the sway bar mounts off and screwing myself over.

                  • Got the G-series all cleaned up and ready to go in. I have the clutch mounted. I have all the motor mounts from shadetree ready to go. Tomorrow i will have the trans installed. I hope to get the axles all installed Thursday. Friday might will be spent getting the rest of the car back together. I hope to have saturday to reattach all the wiring.

                    • Now, did you bolt that reinforcement to an existing mounting point or was there some welding involved? Also, whats the benefit of that reinforcement over stock? Just wondering if it's something I should look into.

I had to weld! A plate was cut up and welded to the body. A section of angle iron was cut to length. 2x more small sections of angle iron were cut and welded to the ends of the 1st part to make a box on each end. Holes were marked and drilled. More holes marked and drilled. Bolts were cut down and welded to some of the holes to make in place studs. I still have to mark and drill 2 more holes and i will weld in bolts to them i hope tonight.

                        This mod requires welding.

                        • You don't want the flywheel to be too smooth. look at a new pressure plate, that's the finish you want, otherwise it'll glaze the disk.

                          • Its not crazy smooth. I just took some of the old glaze off the surface. I guess we will see soon enough if i messed it up or not. Fingers crossed.

                              • My top gear swap is done. I let the spider gears fall down inside the case. I will have to split the case open tonight and realign the gears and tie them up. So my autocross dreams are getting even further apart now. Im gonna try my best to make it tho.
