Today I replaced my VW style radio antenna with a nmo mount for a future CB addition. Then I added two extra screws per side to my roof rack just for piece of mind. Also straightened out my drivers side fog light, it was twisted to the left a little.



Something I've noticed about window tint, you get what you pay for. I have my windows tinted on my Festiva, was done a couple of years ago. Can't remember the brand but it has faded bad already. I had another brand of tint on my wife's old Accent and it looked better then my Festiva tint even after 8 years. I have 5% on the rears and 20% on the front doors. For my old STi and my wife's Legacy GT we went to a 3M installer and it was worth every penny. Each car ran about $400 but that included the 3M color stable on the rears at 5%, the front doors at 20% and 70% 3M crystalline tint on the front windshield. The cars look great and on long trips the heat doesn't come through the front windshield that much at all. I plan on having the guy re-do my Festiva windows the same way.

x2 Windsheild tint is one of my favorite mods. I have a broken windshield on my neon, and got a ticket...im gonna be sad when it's clear glass again. It's a dramatic change in heat even if you just go medium all around and the lightest on the front windows/windshield. I hate cops attention so i never go more than medium in front.

Well I felt ambitious today, the weather was awsome so I did some spring cleaning on Twizted. I have done a few things to him since he got his FOTM last June. So I figured some may want to see. Plus it gave me a jump on getting him ready to go up for OSX meet. I still have a few interior tid bits to install to make him nice. I will save those for another day.

Had mine aligned this morning. By the way the tires were worn I figured it had a good bit of toe out. Well, stock a Festiva is supposed to have 3/16" of toe-in. Mine had 1/4" out. That is one way to ruin a pair of tires in less than 5 months and it did. Holy crap does it run so much nicer now. With that much drag I figure it was costing me at least 1-1.5 MPG maybe a little more.

Next up: Rings and valve seals.

Indeed, I'll bet you see a difference on the next fill up. It will definitely save on those tires!

Are you sure it shouldn't be 3/16 toe-out? The front of the tires should out further than the rears. As easy way to set is use a bungee cord and set the gap on the front the same as the gap on the rear. Even the Escape I had professional aligned is setup that way.

Looks like I'll need to align my ride. I'm wearing through tires like nobody's business, and although I corner like an Indy car, the feel is that every variation in the road has it's way with me. In a straight line, I'm weaving. I need to replace my axles, but I'd rather finish the XR2 build before I do. It may still need to happen though. I don't want to lose my car before I get the chance to build it, as well as hold on to my T1-R's!

I removed the radiator/fan assembly today. Radiator has a leak, so now I need to order the new one. Plus I broke one of the connectors off when I removed the wire connectors on the coolant sensor. So, now I will need to order one of those as well.

It only makes sence to toe in, because as you go faster, natural forces act on your front end making the toe-in condition actually go away. (of course this is a generic statement)

I HIGHLY doubt the "professional" used a bungee cord. If so, then he isn't professional. Every car has a listed alignment tolerance. Just like spark plug gap, head bolt torque, etc. The alignment process is very simple, But cannot be done accurately with a bungee cord.

It sounds like you have toe-out. This will give you lots of turn-in steering (more steering at the very beginning of the corner) but will make your car want to "wander" in the straightaways. It will wear your tires on the inside.

You only toe-in on rwd cars because of what you state. With FWD the wheels are doing the pulling not being pushed. Bungee are just DIY trick.. I wouldn't pay for a professional job if that's what they'd do.

I've done a few things lately. No pictures because it's dark but hopefully I can get some soon. I found a junkyard and scored some parts, pretty far drive though.

-Geo Metro 13s. Sanded them down and sprayed them dark gray.
-New left fender to replace a badly dented one.
-Clear turn signals from eBay.
-Stock "Festiva" mudflaps in the rear.
-Installed a rear wiper.
-Finally, finished off my Escort console swap with the manual trans shift boot. (The console I took mine out of was an auto.)

All it needs now is a bp swap to make me happy.

washed it and plotted. my good friend (who gave the car to me) will be in town in a couple of weeks and an extra pair of hands sounds like just the thing i need to get the car lowered and the rack replaced.

also pondered my rear swaybar situation- and just now noticed that eurosport mkI vw 16v front upper sway bars are made of 3/4" and 7/8" steel tube- seems a bit excessive for the fes but i happen to have a supply of similar sized tubing at my other job.
