What have you done to your Festiva today!?

  • Installed a cargo light with wired hatch latch, escort rear wiper mod, new hatch handle and trim piece with lights that came from my new car. Washed the windows inside and out. Holy crap it is nice to be able to see again. Next up for my dd is full suspension and brake swap. My dd is getting close to the condition of the one that I just gave my MOM. Had to give her the good car ya know. That's cool cause that just gives me permission to build another one for me. This blue one has no rust and is pretty solid and needs lots of tlc which it will get.

          • Drilled the lock out of the mazda, drove it into the garage, about 90% finished ripping the b6 out. Go figure im stuck in the same place as last time. Im probably going to have to remove accessory pulley again.

            On a side note . Why is the starter on this transmission under the intake manifold. Is that still e series? Super pita.

            • I can blindly get at the starter bolts and the starter just slides off, never had to actually change one because it failed though.

              • Woo! finally a local junkyard got an Aspire in. I know what I am doing Saturday. Going to go get me a Aspire rear brake setup.

                Is there a difference in the rear brakes between and Auto, and Manual Aspire? I know there is for front brakes, as the auto aspires have bigger front brake, just not sure about the back.

                • I went to pick n pull in Columbus yesterday and got a rear Aspire swap. There is still one there too. Kinda rusty but definitely useable.

                    No there isn't. Back brakes are the same: 2/3 of any braking action on a car is at the front.
                    Grab the body mounting brackets too (they are much sturdier and 1/16" thicker), undo the brake hoses at the body shell connection and not at the trailing arm, try to grab the entire e-brake assembly and grab the rear shocks and springs while you're at it. I suspect that 5 door springs are stiffer (fewer coil turns) than those off a 3 door. Other 'go for' specific goodie is the front sway bar. And maybe the Festy-compatible gas tank if it's a 2 door (and you have an EFI Festy).

                    • I got Aspire rear springs from shadetree at ohiostiva, also some cut supra springs to try.

                      I will probably go for the struts though at the junkyard, much less to mess with, and won't have to fight the lower strut bolts, also they probably will suffice for a while since they are probably much lower mileage than mine.

                      I think mine still has the factory rear struts on it, because someone definitely tried to change the struts in the past, and failed as soon as the driver side lower strut bolt head sheared off.

                        I wouldn't worry about the front sway bar. Had one in my car and didn't like it. I switched back to the Festiva bar and I much prefer the handling. There are a couple of other members who may chime in here too. I believe advancedynamix and eurotiva both run the stock Festiva front bar... although it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong

                              • Filled it up. 38.19 MPG mixed highway and city. Whoever thinks the B6 doesn't get the same gas mileage as the B3 is wrong.

                                I am actually getting better gas mileage than when I had the B3 in there.

                                So why didn't Ford/Mazda put the B6 in there in the first place? Or at least just in the higher trimmed LXs and GLs or a Sport model. Would have cost like $0 more because it is just a bored out B3 anyway.

                                I just think the B3 has to be really thrashed to get up to speed fast enough these days without holding up traffic, causing you to use more gas than with a B6 where you have that extra power and don't need to trash it that much so you actually save gas.
