  • Finished with the Rio Swap.

Have some slotted rotors, and a set of brake pads on their way to replace the junkyard parts.

    • Washed car cover at the laundromat. Removed third brake light. Installed a standard rubber hatch plug in it's place. Installed a set of new tires. Even though they are supposed to be the same size, they are larger. Now I need some longer or stiffer struts in the front so it doesn't rub when hitting a big bump at speed. Modified headers are ready for pickup tomorrow.

        • I picked this up after work. Nice.
I can't wait to turn the screws out on my twins.
Guess what I will be doing tomorrow now that I passed emissions testing.

          • Kia Rio swap is 100% done, I couldn't get away with using the Festiva tie rods, so I got some pretty looking Escort tie rods on there, and got a $80 alignment for $40. [emoji14]

            • Replaced the manual transmission fluid. I'm sure it was the original fluid by the look and smell and the shifts feel smoother now.

ATF? 75w-90 Gear oil is fine as long as it's gl-4 rated and not gl-5. Gl-5 will eat the synchros.
Pennzoil synchromesh is really good too, it's what I run. meant for manual transmissions and is the same viscosity as ATF. Lots of people here have had good luck with the stuff.

I used Castrol ATF designed for Ford vehicles.

It all works good. You could probably run ANYTHING but gl-5 transmission oil in a festy transmission and it will run just fine. Lol

I've even heard of people on here using Mobil 1 European synthetic motor oil. I forget the actual weight.

Nice! What are you going to do with the 88?
Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

I'm pretty much giving it to someone at work.....its a cool little car....I didn't even know 88s had 5 speeds....thought they were all 4 speeds.....bought from the original family....its got tach, tilt, power mirrors, of course nice interior, but not now.....oh, intermittent wipers.....little console all in great shape....can't believe the seats have 260k on them.....just need a good cleaning and wah lah......not a bad interior...I'm left with a cigarette hole in the back seat/split by the way and a normal wear/tear on the driver side by the mechanism....I think they all do that. I'm very happy....
