  • Continuing to do more polishing and final waxing on most of the car, paint is looking pretty darn nice. Still gotta do lots of hard to reach areas, roof, and finish wet sanding on rear hatch.

    • to go along with the cascade posts when I flushed mine a month or two ago I ran straight hot water through the garden hose from our washing machine and after the engine had mostly cooled I removed for two flushes the bypass hose right under the disty while running and pouring out by the right axle and then reconnected after clear and then the other flush it may have been the upper hose disconnected from the rad side and angled down. been a while. but both times with the engine running and me flushing with straight hot water. worked well. When you guys do this I'd also suggest cleaning the reserve hose and tank just to keep everything as clean as it can be.

today I repaired my brake cable that I had stripped the threads on way back a year and a half or so ago and straightened the handle as it was starting to lock the button. I also fixed my drivers seat and lubed the rails (after install so not as good). I had to adjust the cable and re-seat the right rail cable insert and punch the metal in to lock it in place. I think I took it apart when I swapped festiva to aspire cushions, etc and took apart the seats completely. That was probably one part that didn't need to come off?? idk

in an hour or so I'll do oil changes on my festy and my wife's suzuki. then I'll attempt to figure out why my left license plate light isn't getting any power...

        • .... I just had a thought, I wonder if you used 1/2 or 1 once of Cascade in the gas tank if it would dissolve that sand-like mud that bonds together and accumilates from gas that has sat for a long time. And maybe suck it into the filter. Another way of cleaning the gas tank over time, perhaps. The fact that you would use such a small amount would go right through the engine and also maybe help clean the carbon from the engine as well, just a thought.

The powder is abrasive enough to clean the coolant passages in the engine and heater core. And its much cheaper than commercial coolant flush chemicals.

            • Drove it! Thats right, drove Festevil for the first time today (#8 for me, and fourth one I currently own). Just drove him up the driveway from the basement carport, but he runs and drives. Likes to pop out of reverse, but I was already looking toward a trans swap since he's only a 4 speed anyway. Still gotta bolt the exhaust to the manifold and hook up the cooling system, but he's a pretty strong car for one that I'm told is likely up around 300k (has had a tach cluster swap so don't know for sure). I'm happy with it so far. Wifey suggested putting giant ribbons and bows on all four of them and bringing them to mom and dad's house to park in front of their 30' tall hemlock tree to look like christmas presents. Logistically though it probably won't happen

                • We haven't ruled it out if we can find a good tree close to the house. But mom and dads is 20 mins away, so it would take a while to ferry all the cars over there, then back again. If we found one nearby though we could pull it off pretty easily. At first I didn't think I'd have Festevil on the road before christmas but now I think I'm driving him to work tomorrow lol.

                    • Went out to fill Festevil up with coolant before work at about 6, and heard water pouring out of somewhere on the backside of the motor. It was too dark to see where and I didn't have much time to look, but I'm guessing one of the little coolant hoses back there somewhere. But it did give me a chance to notice that there are no bolts/nuts holding the intake to the head, it was just held on by the old gasket! Anyone know offhand what size those are? I'd like to pick some up on the way home today. I think its two studs and 5 bolts? Does that sound right? I would rob some spares off of the intake on my spare head, but I already got all the nuts from it to finish bolting down the carb lol.

                      • After driving my car with a shimmy in the front long enough to render the front tires worthless I checked the front end. I had assumed (I know) that since I replaced the whole front end a couple years ago that it had to be the steering rack. WRONG!!

I DID replace the front end but I used a kit bought on Ebay. The right control arm/ball joint boot was shredded and I've never seen a ball joint so sloppy in my life. THERE WAS NEVER ANY GREASE IN THE BALL JOINT FROM THE FACTORY (love those sealed joints). The boot on the other ball joint was going and the tie rod ends as well.

I bought all new parts locally and installed a new set of 13" tires. I just got done re-setting the front toe and she's a JOY to drive again!!

I had a wicked case of torque steer going on after I put all the new parts on and it seemed as though I had a right CV issue but after setting the toe it's right as rain. The left tire was toed inward more than the right one was so it was pushing the car to the right on acceleration.

If it weren't supposed to rain tomorrow I'd hook up the trailer, detail them both out and take a nice drive. It'll be the first time in weeks it's been over 60 degrees.

                        • After getting sick of driving behind a slow person, I passed, less than a mile down the road I caught a rock right in front of my nose, 1st and only rock chip on my baby's windshield in 21 years (today she's 21, born 12/13/1990). Karma's a $%^$&$###$& and I hate the terrible chip seal that the county did on that road last summer, that is still falling apart and spitting out gravel. Just my little rant
