Ya my first thought was you had the exh/int rocker shafts swapped, but if you checked them it must be something else. I'm sure he'll get it dialed in for you. Good things come to those who wait:thumbs_up:

LOL, that's even more bizarre. Are you positive the HLA were getting plenty of oil and pumping up completely? The shafts are on the proper sides and oriented correctly so all the oil feed holes line up with the rockers? I know it sounds elementary, but you know how it goes...the simplest answer is usually the right one, LOL. It just seems a little coincidental since all the intake rockers are on their own seperate rocker shaft. Maybe it was just a fluke that happened on the initial break-in. Hopefully, everything will correct itself. I had almost the exact same issue on a B8. I had the valvetrain off of it 3 times trying to figure out why the exhaust HLAs wouldn't pump up. Then, by chance, I noticed that one of the threaded holes for the bolts that hold the rocker shaft down had been helicoiled by someone. A very minute portion of the helicoil was sticking up above the shaft saddle and not letting the shaft seat down properly on the head. Without an air tight seal, the oil pressure in the shaft was not enough to feed the HLAs properly. I snipped off the end of the helicoil with wire cutters, put it back together and never had another issue with it.

Matt is making me some shims right now, I have been on the phone with him trying to figure it out but we're not sure what happened... It was only the intake side, all the exhaust lha's had 0 gap

Naw, at least you had fun the last 20 years. The bad part is all the money you spent on fancy equipment. All you really needed was a $250 smart phone and free WiFi at McDonalds, LOL.

On a more serious note, any ideas or conclusions on the valve lash mystery???

I don't know how old you are Matt but there are lots of older folks out there similarly jealous. Until they see what a thorough mess a modern "know-it-all" can make by believing that the electronic age can circumvent real knowledge and experience.

LOL yes its a different world now than 20 years ago. Back then everyone would say "Ya I read in HOT ROD MAGAZINE,this is how you do that". Now everyone is an expert because of the web.
For what its worth Matt,I always listen to my machinist. If he says pat my head & rub my belly when doing my break-in. I do it-

about 3/4 of the way down, you will see a 4 inch round "magnapack" resonator. thats the same ones i put in aaronbrook37's car, it sounds awesome!!! at idle it sounds allmost factory and under 3000 rpm its VERY quiet... i put one close to this on another members car and it took away allmost all the rasp in his exhaust, a good resonator is the key to a nice sounding exhaust...

thats why its the only muffler i have on my car

For your muffler questions, contact Rich at Cone Engineering. He helped me build a muffler. Came out perfect.

Many people don't know that angles within the muffler change the sound. You can also have an internal chamber. The one I built had a flat entry chamber with a reverse cone exit. No rasp at all, and was a straight through with stainless steel packing.

Oh trust me, either way works. I was hesitant to try it for the very reason you wrote (Love that commercial)

However, I wasn't the first around here to do it. And remember, you're running a high strung n/a car with a static comp of what, 11:1? You don't get the dynamic comp that a forced induction app does so I'm guessing the 16G DSM I helped build that was 9:1 comp on 30psi with a high lift/low duration cam, may be a little harder on the rings. Motor that I'm speaking of put down 350awhp, has almost 35k miles on it since it was built, and compression varies by 1 psi peak to peak and still runs like a striped ass ape.

Again, not knocking Matt. I heard your car and it may be the sexiest 1.3L I've ever heard (excluding bikes, that isn't fair lol)
