  • Wait till you drive it. I've lost interest in all my other “dream cars" since getting into these Festivas. There is a really nice Exige here in town for sale at a steal of a price and I want it, but when I think of the Exige that spun off the track trying to follow my line around the carousel at WHP, I think, "nah, I'd rather build another Festy."
    Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

    • I couldn't agree with you more. I love my festy because it's simple, fun, cheap, competitive, fast and damn good looking. I'm also very comfortable with the b6. It's one of the engines I cut my teeth on.

      I'm hoping that the carbs aren't a complete PITA but other than that, I think the festiva will bring me a lot of smiles for a long time.

      • Got my head gasket and valve cover finally. The only thing I'm waiting for now is the crank key and I can put the rest of the motor together.

          I think I might remove the right nipple and replace it with a banjo bolt and fitting facing the rear. Just for tidiness

          • I just ordered my sliding seat bracket/mount thru wedge engineering. I think I'm at a point where I have more parts to install than I have time. The due date is creeping up fast but I never have time to work on anything. If all goes well I'll have a few hours on Sunday though.

            • Small update.

              I added to my order from Ernst. I am now waiting for a pair of new corner lights, the front chin spoiler and the rear lower spoiler. Other than his hood add on, I am complete as far as exterior work is concerned.

              I have been emailing back and forth with a dcoe guru. Apparently tuning is going to be a bit more complex because I have to compensate for the ethanol found in modern gasoline. The one good thing I'm learning is that my motor could have a much higher output than my desired 100whp. He estimates much higher with a proper tune and header. I wont be too optimistic but we will see. 100whp will do more than put a smile on my face but I suppose 130 would be pretty awesome.

              • After you get it dialed in, that will be one sweet setup. I bet it'll feel mild and easy to drive, but be amazingly quick at the same time.

                  Mild is exactly what I'm hoping for. I'm not fishing for heaps of power but reliable fun would be awesome.

                  I just made a huge order for most of my fuel components. I ordered a 2-14 psi fuel pressure regulator, 8mm inline gauge port, 0-15 fuel pressure gauge, a vacuum manifold for the brake booster and distributor, 2x dcoe rebuild kits, 2x dcoe accelerator pumps, 4x 1/4" barbed to 1/8 npt fittings for the manifold, 2x low pressure inline fuel pumps, hose and clamps.

                  The plan is to mount the fuel pump low on the frame where the charcoal canister used to be. I'm trying to keep the bay tidy. Since the fuel pump and regulator will be so low, I can't mount the gauge on the regulator because I won't be able to see it. Instead, the gauge will go between the carbs.

                  The only things I have left to order is a set of relays to re-do my start switch (and fuel pump), a steering hub+wheel and a pigtail to run the newer miata alternator. The only thing I need more of is time. I literally have a shop full of parts and not enough time to install everything.

                    • I'm doing some brainstorming on a fuse/ relay box. Ideally, it would be a 4 gang, 40 amp rated, dual relay box but I cant find exactly what I'm looking for. The plan is to replacey fusible links, add a fuse for my fuel pump and a relay as well. Here's something similar.

                                I will look into this on Monday when I can do it on company time.

                                I got a little bit of work done on the motor this weekend. I also ordered myself a sweet sparco steering wheel, momo quick release and hub afalter. I doubt I will have the motor in and running by the first event but now it doesn't matter because my son is visiting.







                                I didn't get the black quick release unfortunately. The one i got was red but I'll survive.
