      • Today I pulled the heated narrowband Denso, and ran the Innovate wideband's brown data wire to the signal wire going to the ECU. I even found a way to run the Innovate cable into the interior without drilling any holes. On the bottom of the right front wheelwell, behind the plastic inner liner, there was a rubber plug that led to the interior. I pulled that plug, then pulled up the carpet and the plastic piece that holds the carpet down, under the door. There were more holes there. I used a coat hanger and duct tape to fish the Innovate cable thru from the wheelwell to the interior.

So tmw or Fri I will go on a run, using the wideband as the signal-sender to the ECU. Maybe that will clear up my issues....

        • Question: if eventually I want to go with the Megasquirt PnP for the Miata (see below), I need to know if the Aspire computer has the same connections as the Festiva one; in other words, can you run a Festy off an OBD-1 (1994-95) Aspire ECU, and run an Aspire off an EFI Festy ECU? I ask because they do not mention that the Aspire is supported, only the 90-93 Festy.

Miata 9093 Gen2 PnP Plug and Play for the 1990-93 1.6l Miata MX-5, 1990-1994 Protege or 323,1991-1995 Ford Escort GT 1.8 and 1990-1993 Ford Festiva 1.3

          • Same plug I think but the pin out is completely different.

            • Does anyone have an EFI Festy ECU pinout diagram? I found an Aspire one that someone put up on the Aspire forum. I'd like to compare them.

Edit: here's the Aspire one, for a 1994 OBD-1 Aspire. There's also one on that page for a 97 Aspire (OBD-2):

              • Apples and oranges Tom. It's the sole reason I bought a Festiva to begin with, I wanted to do an easy engine swap after the kiazord broke my soul. It's easy to swap in a bigger engine if you run it on aspire electronics but doing that doesn't give you anywhere close to the potential output of the bigger engine.

Easier to read diagram here IMO

Not sure what you meant about easier with Aspire electronics. Aspires seem unique.

                  • Did find a pinout chart comparing Festy B3s and BPs. It came up in a search of "mazda 323 ecu pinout"; first page of the search results. Don't know how to link it tho; it was a group of 8 pictures. Using it, I see where there are some differences between the Aspire and Festy ECUs. More and more I am thinking that Aspire ECU pinouts are unique, which is why Megasquirt didn't include it in the list of compatible ECUs for the Mazda Microsquirt PnP products.

But this same Microsquirt product will work with all other B-series ECUs, just not the Aspire's. So you could use it with a Festy B3, then when you did a swap to a bigger B motor, just keep using it!

                    • Waht about the 3 plug mazdas? are they close enough to the aspire 3 plug? Nerd racing knows how to make those work from what i recall. He didnt harness his aspire backwards to use 2 plug other b series, and i dont think iceracer dude did either. If i HAD to do another harness id look into a obd2 of some sort, which nowadays has the support out there. then you can run off a crank sensor and simplify thru complexity if that makes any sense at all.

Oh yeah, I think a KIA uses the same 35 tooth wheel that people need to run the older MS systems. usually they get a ford edis system and make one,of those but if you use a kia with the same teeth it goes on our pulley system without any work. Again this working off great memory but not great enough to produce a link

It depends. Even MS sez not to expect big mileage gains.

My main purpose in starting this thread was to find what relatively inexpensive and uncomplicated things we could do to our cars to improve gas mileage--both aero and motor improvements. If I need a bunch of other stuff to make Matt's cam play nice with my ECU, for example, it will go beyond the scope of what many people will want to do. Yeah, it would be nice to do everything possible to maximize mileage, for both bragging rights and fuel savings, but at what cost? And how long to recoup the costs to at least the break-even point?

                            • My 97 has a 3 plug Ecu, but there's only the small and big plugs in the harness. The 89 auto tracer I got the b6 from had a 3 plug Ecu and 3 plugs in it! Other than that I don't know.

What I meant by running an engine on aspire electronics is dropping a motor in, and plugging in The aspire disty, MAF, and keeping the stock Ecu. Like swapping a Bp into a festy and not using the Bp Ecu and VAF, the Ecu is still only programmed for 60 hp.

You could try getting ahold of Tim Weber on Facebook, he's got a turbo b3 aspire ran on megasquirt. He might be able to help you out. I think he's aspireSVT here but he never logs on.

                              • I got an aspire from shadetree that is b6 swapped but on stock electronics. Its a fully loaded auto car and its the slowest car I've ever driven. I've always thought it was down on power due to running on stock electronics. It also gets a CEL...probably running lean. Wonder if I should throw slightly larger injectors at it?
