Mercedes uses kind of a cool way to heat the washer fluid..... they run a pipe into and out of the reservoir with grommets ON TOP, and hook it to a coolant bleed line. basically acts a a heat exchanger, though I realize it wont stop it from freezing when engine is off.

That's really smart, id be worried about spraying 200+ degree water on a frosty window though lol

It's not 200+ degrees, it just kinda warms it because it's just a little loop of steel pipe thru the reservoir. Works a treat.

Today's question is about power steering. Should the Festiva power steering pump allow for turning the wheels with one hand while standing still on pavement? What pressure should the pump be putting out and can I install a T + gauge to test? Most videos fail to mention the importance of adding a neodymium magnet to the outside of the reservoir.

I am in total agreement with Gomez. I can turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while parked on pavement using my index finger only. It was a very nice upgrade.

Help. I only have a sticker on my 93 GL rad support specifying 1-3/4 pounds of R-12.
Is that for a factory A/C system?
Each can is 14 oz., therefore I require two full cans.
What do other members use for leak test dye and refrigerant oil?

The under hood sticker on my 1990 with factory air call for a maximum charge of 1 lb 9 oz of R12.

I used pag oil with UV dye already in it.

You have mineral oil in your system so you would need to put the dye in the compressor before you hook up the hoses.
They sell Quest/1 oz. universal A/C UV dye for 5.99

at Autozone here.

What pitch is the thread on the alternator bolts? M10 X 1.25 or M10 X 1.5? I need to run a tap through the alternator casting to clean up the threads.

I am very environmentally conscious. I figure that a two stage vacuum pump should evacuate 99% of an A/C system in about six minutes. I asked around town to find out who could do this for me cheaply. They want $60 + tax. I want to change my own compressor. How much would this service (evacuation only) cost stateside?

Does anyone know what the Ford Festiva key blank part number is?
It sort of looks like the 011-R series. I believe the blanks have a cut tip at the end similar to 596796, except for a single high shoulder.

What's the difference between F4BZ-2140-B Aspire w/o ABS master cylinder
and F4BZ-2140-C Aspire w/ABS master cylinder ?

Different bore? Different stroke? or what?

According to rockauto.com using NAPA part numbers, the ABS one has a 7/8" piston vs the 13/16" piston on the Non-ABS.

Thanks. Could I use an ABS master cylinder on a Festiva? They have a bunch of them at Rear Counter. Also, what size is the Festiva piston by comparison?

I received my Mazda '86 - '87 distributor rotor today. After I put it on, I noticed that it had a great deal of slop in it. Then I noticed a screw hole in it. Does anyone know if they are supposed to be screwed onto the distributor shaft?
