I have a B6 and it idles at 500 rpm.
Why can't you set your idle lower?
That is a question I would like to know the answer to. It won't go much lower than 950 rpms because the idle mix screw bottoms out.
Also the factory spec for the idle of a B6 SOHC is like 700-800 rpms, according to clubprotege at least.

I'll so use the sound recorder on my phone and see if I can get a clear enough sound of the engine running when warmed up.

    Runs heck of allot smoother.

It doesn't idle as low as a B3, but even Karl says his B6s usually idle around 1k anyway. Mine seems to rest around 950 rpms for idle.

Now the question is, is there any benefit from running 93 octane and advancing the timing? Because just to see if it would help smooth out the idle, i filled it with 93 octane last fill up.
How many degrees would give the best performance under 93 octane on a B6?

Also I am not 100%, advancing is toward the firewall, and retarding is away in regards to the timing mark on the scale?

Torque stop teasing us! How does it run now that you've fixed the vacuum leak?

Finally found the source of the vacuum leak. A vacuum cap on the lower throttle body was split down the entire bottom, not visible until I pulled it off.

Pulled the seats and carpet out of the blue one and installed the replacement hatch. Green one is ready for the scrap yard..

Passenger front fender and door yet to switch. Have seats and door panels but need to find carpet before putting that back in.

Tom and I finished the aspire front brakes today. The drivers side went pretty smooth. Me like an idiot busted my knuckles jacking up the car!
