Girlfriend crashed camry. No rental insurance coverage. I pulled the b8 out a month ago, should I scramble and make her run with a dead cylider, find a good engine, or buy a third running festiva? Note the first two options mean several losing days at work, 400 bucks or more. Decisions decisions lol

I always go with semi-metallic pads. They tend to last longer. I've had good luck with wearever, bendix, and centric. So far all brands I've seen or used generate a good bit of dust on the stock setup. I've never been able to keep trim rings clean for much over a week. No idea on ceramic pads. I'm sure they're out there, but I'm cheap.

In other news, I drove mine today! Got my registration paid yesterday. Now I have to wait for the sticker to come in the mail. Somehow that saves money for the state. Until then I have good papers and a two month expired tag on the back. Yay, probable cause.

Installed my new bumper and grille.

The grille barely fit between the headlights but I wedged it in. I had to attach it using zip ties because not enough of the mount points lined up for the clips to work.
The painted logo looks weird. How hard is it to replace the logo?

Also, my passenger side front brakes have been making noise. Sounds like they're dragging, but when I push the pedal, the noise goes away. I peeked at the caliper earlier while working on the bumper and it looks like the piston is pushed out pretty far and the pads are close together. If they're already worn, it's odd because they looked fine not too long ago.
I'll take the front wheels off to inspect better after work if I feel up to it.

If the pads need replacement, what do y'all recommend? I'm using Raybestos (don't remember the exact line or specs) right now and they make a grinding noise when braking. Nothing bad, but you can hear them working. They also make A LOT of dust. No point in having chrome trim rings when they turn black within two days of being washed.

Took the top off the carb and cleaned it out. Not bad, but a plugged jet and some debris in the bowl.

Float is set too high, but I didn't notice until I got it all back together, so I'll take care of it later.

Found out the diaphragm in the distributor vacuum module is leaking, so I'm not getting any advance, except mechanical, and that also makes a bit of a manifolds vacuum leak. Anyone know where to get a dizzy vacuum rebuild kit?

Removed the choke plate entirely (and bent it in the process) because it never really functioned correctly. Artificially advanced the ignition timing as far as it would go to make up for the lack of vacuum advance.

Installed new disc pads. When I checked my rear breaks, OMG!!! both cylinders were leekin', not bad, but for a long while. First time I 've checked them since I bought her. Shoes on right side disentergrating. Traveled to 4 stores before I found a new set of shoes. Will rebuild cylinders if possible. I'll be on it first thing in the morning.

Oh, and we chased down a short in Wulfgarthegreat's car. Appears to have been in the multifunction switch. He couldn't use his wipers, the fuse would blow when the key came on. Pulled a backup off another steering column, and good as new!

Had this graphic made and installed this afternoon. It's not perfect but it only has to last 'till Aug 8th...

A bit of back story goes with this.

A local township has wind turbine zoning in place but some people want the set back and noise levels to be a bit stricter. A "yes" vote keeps the present zoning in effect. A "no" vote makes the zoning board rewrite the restrictions.

No one in the area has been sought after to place a 500' turbine on their farm, but the township felt it was a good idea to get something on the record IN CASE it comes up, as had happened a few townships from here.

I really don't care one way or the other so I took the tongue in cheek approach to possibly ruffle a few feathers or get a chuckle.

Their are a lot of "vote no" signs in different yards and a neighbor put up a "vote yes" sign in his. I pulled into his driveway after the graphic was installed and he and his wife both got a good laugh out of it.

Yup, Ban the Fan & Brake Wind......LOL

    Cheap entertainment for $10.

It's time for an update. Things were bad here in July. My Dad passed away on July 9th so the Blue Lightning build has been on hold. Last week things settled down a little so I'm back at the build. Driver one is helping/doing the interior mods while I'm getting the mechanical's taken care of. New tires (195-50-15) are on the rims, Insulation is installed in the interior. New antenna for the sound system is installed, as are the cables for the stereo system. Radiator is in, Still need to get new hoses, Aspire rear beam is in, still need to replace brake cylinder and shoes, hook up brake lines, swap out master cylinder and front knuckles.
On the silver 90, I changed the oil last week and drove it to my moms. Love teh aspire swap on it with the 14" tires.
More to come. Debut should be at FM6.

I live in a smaller town...the options are limited so I guess the prices are higher.

Also I just finished putting in my new Wolo Max Sound 320-2t horns. One step closer to passing inspection!

    Installed the new subwoofer.
It's a 12" JL Audio WX series. Noticeable improvement of over the old 10" Sony Explod. I mounted the amp to the back of the box and oriented the speaker towards the front.

Also installed my painted wiper arms. Little touches can make a difference.

I raced my friend in his M5 today. He thought that I wouldn't stand a chance, and he has been in my Festiva a lot. The first race he pulled me by a foot or so up to about 65mph, but then I realized that I had left my parking brake on after an e-brake u-turn before our run, ooops! So we lined up again and I pulled him by three car lengths (again, to about 65). This is a 400hp V8 BMW that runs awesome, and my cheap ebay stage two clutch slips if I launch the car. Lol.
