Uhh....if your comment was meant for me, all I can say is, car had brown interior when I bought it almost 24 yrs ago and am trying to keep it as it was. Although, buying tan/brown interior parts is a bugger. I swear the ratio of gray to tan Festys must be about 4 to 1.

Getting it professionally repainted in January. Can't wait!

And, as far as "what did I do today" goes.....received my 89,000 mile 5-spd transmission today.

Bought a brown interior door latch release handle on e-Bay....the rectangular ones you pull to open the door.

What's worse is that they won't use something else. There were several cars made with our size pipe that they could use. Maybe even in stainless!

You would still have to get it custom installed.
    "Quiet flow"?

Is that a line of Walker mufflers? A type of muffler? Sorry, not fully tracking on that.....

$55.....OK, I'll consider stainless. Guess my "free" muffler isn't really "free" if I have to drive 160 miles round trip to get it put on.

I usually hear people talk of finding used mufflers at the junkyards for less than $20, and even welded on for that price. Otherwise I'd say just pick up a Thrush turbo muffler for the same price, buy a pipe size adapter, and go from there...

Sounds nice but "under warranty" = "free".

But....the guy at Midas said the same thing: "We don't carry many mufflers any more because most new cars have stainless steel mufflers and so we only replace them if they're damaged in accidents."

However......how much do they generally run for Festivas?

Tried to get a new muffler put on mine today. Drove all the way to Oklahoma City to get it done (got a warranty for lifetime mufflers from Midas for my Festy clear back in 1993).

    No dice. :nono:

Didn't have any that would fit in stock. They do in Wichita, KS but not in Oklahoma City. Will have to ship it from Wichita to OKC.

Nuts. More time and gas to get it swapped out....

My replacement transmission arrived late last week and I finally got the resurfaced flywheel, new clutch, engine with new oil pump and rear main seal and transmission mated up and back in the car today. This has been a frustrating couple of weeks... took a while to find a transmission. Thanks to B&G Autowreckers in Weyburn SK; they had the best price and were quick to respond to questions.

I had planned to change the oil pump anyway so that wasn't an issue but discovered a few other things that had to be done. The passenger side front wheel bearings were shot, the rear motor mount was broken in two and the front shocks had all but lost their rebound. Fortunately I had an extra mount and had the Tein coilovers to install. Bought replacement bearings and seals for the front and also picked up a bearing separator/puller set from Princess Auto (similar to Harbor Frieght I think). I already had the Ford tool kit for the front bearings so now I can do the front hub rebuilds at home.

Plan is to hook up all the hoses and wiring tomorrow and get the car back on the road! I will have an issue to sort out with the Teins as the alloy wheels I run in the summer will hit them. No problems with the winter steelies though. I'll post another thread with some pics to show you what I'm up against.

The intake gasket from my Festiva engine is metal- much like the exhaust gaskets. I've never seen one like it before. Can it be reused?
Let copper coat dry on both sides, Check manifold for flat, many years will make it wavy ; the bolt holes get pulled. Flat file, machine surface, whatever to make the surface flat. Copper coat will work good with metal gaskets and flat surfaces.

I also noted that winterforce tires have zero traction once the walnut shells are worn off and the daytime melt is turning to ice. UPS...hurry!
